Why would I need the Plus Pack?
I am an ATI user for many years and I am now with ATI 2013. Along the years I have had to recover from backups a few times and never encountered a problem.
When I purchased this 2013 version I opted out of the Plus Pack, even though I do have it for 2 different prior editions. The fact is, I never had a need to use it before and I wonder if I will ever need it in the future.
Today, I received a message from Acronis encouraging me to acquire the Plus Pack, since I did not buy it when I bought the TI 2013, and arguing that I would need the PP to (quote) "Restore your PC backups to a new computer"...
I am not that computer savvy and I wonder under which circumstances would the PP be needed for a restore. Would I need it if, for example:
1. - Different size: I wanted to install a new, larger drive and then restore the old one to this new drive?
2. - Different type: Does it make a difference if either the old or the new drive is an HD or an SSD?
All help will be appreciated.

Hi Tuttle,
Thanks for your comments and sorry for my late response. As I said, I'm not a computer savvy person and I may not have made myself understood on my previous entry. Or I may not fully understand everything you say in your response.
For all the years I have been using ATI, I have always done basic, plain vanilla backups and all my restores, when I needed to do them, were always to exactly the same machine and the same hardware. Only on one occasion I had to restore to the same computer but to a new hard drive, since the old one became inoperable. But the new drive was still the same brand and the same size. So, I understand these were all very simple recoveries and for these I wouldn't expect to need the Plus Pack.
My question is, if I were to buy a larger-size drive to replace the one I currently have, would I still be able to restore the smaller one onto this new, larger drive or would I have to use the Plus Pack in this situation? If the answer is yes, then this would be the one reason I would acquire the Plus Pack, since I'm thinking of replacing my present Intel 160 GB SSD with a 250 GB SSD drive. Would this qualify as a restore into dissimilar hardware? Or, if not, would I still be likely to encounter problems arising just from the fact that the two drives would be of different sizes?
This is the issue I'm currently trying to understand and the answer will determine whether or not I need to acquire the Plus Pack.
I apologize if your previous response already addresses this question since, as I said, I may not have fully understood the totality of what you said.
Thanks for your help and for your patience.

LinYu,
I'll answer while Tuttle is asleep :) .
In the case of just changing the hard drive to a larger size one you don't need the Plus Pack and you will be able to resize the recovery image to take up all the extra space you will have.
The Plus Pack would be useful if you were changing your motherboard to a different model or type. there are other reasons you might need the Plus Pack but that would for most people be the main one, so just changing the hard drive and restoring an image to it is fine to just use True Image itself.

Hello Colin,
Thank you very much! :)
That's exactly the answer I was looking for. From what you say, and given my lack of sophistication in these matters :( I can hardly imagine a situation where I could put Plus Pack to good use, so I may skip the Acronis offer I received by email.
Of course, I will need to learn what I may have to do in order to "resize the recovery image to take up all the extra space" as you say but this, I hope, is probably something I could easily find out by myself.
Thanks again and have a great day!
