Want to buy Acronis TRUE IMAGE for RHEL 5

Thread needs solution

Hi,
We would like to have a Bootable Production Image on USB drive for RHEL-5 with our installed applications. This we need so that the sales person can keep it for the Demo Purpose.
I think this can be done with Acronis TRUE Image but I am not sure if it supports RHEL version 5. I would like to have the trial version and if it works the we will buy the Licensed Copy.

Please help me in this regard.

Hello Rohit,

You need Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Server for Linux for your purposes. This version of Acronis software supports RHEL-5.

  1. To obtain a trial you will need to fill out a form here leaving contact information.

  2. After filling out the form you will have a download link and a unique trial serial number.

After the trial period expires, the product will offer to enter a full serial number. Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 can be turned into a full version without redownloading or reinstallation.

Please see this article for more information.

Thank you.

Thanks Oleg.
I would like to know the cost for the full version.

Also I would like to know if we can create "Bootable Production Image on USB drive" from this or not

Thanks Oleg.

Also I would like to know if we can create "Bootable Production Image on USB drive" from this or not

Also to be precise we would be using RHEL version 5.3, 64 bit. Please let us know if full version supports this.

Hello Rohit,

Thank you for taking time to contact us.

The price is $853 per license (according to Acronis software licensing policy, you should purchase one copy of Acronis program per each machine it will be used with). Acronis Advantage Premier support program is included. You can learn more about the support program here.

RHEL version 5.3, 64 bit is supported by Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Server for Linux.

The agent for Linux is in fact a 32-bit executable. For the authentication, the agent uses system libraries, 32-bit versions of which are not always installed by default with 64-bit distributions. When using the agent on a 64-bit RedHat based distribution, such as RHEL, CentOS, Fedora or Scientific Linux, make sure that the following 32-bit packages are installed in the system:

  • pam.i386
  • libselinux.i386
  • libsepol.i386

These packages should be available in the repository of your Linux distribution.

Please see this article for more information.

What do you mean by "Bootable Production Image on USB drive"? Please correct me if I am wrong, if you want to create an image of the system partition, place it to an USB dirve and restore it in the case of system failure, then Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Server for Linux is the program you need. OS, applications and all data can be fully recovered in minutes, instead of hours or days.

Please let me know if the provided information is unclear or you have any other questions.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you.

Thank you.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. We are very much intrested in buying the full version.

But what we mean by "Bootable Production Image on USB drive" is that the Bootable USB should contain all our applications and we can work on following two ways:
1) Our Sales person can take the USB containing image of RHEL 5.3 with complete application and this he can straight away run from the USB itself. No need to copy it anywhere.
2) We have an install option by virtue of which we can straight away install RHEL5.3 with all our applicatios. This we would required in case USB access is slow.

Please let us know if this can be done with Acronis Backup and Recovery

Hello Rohit,

Thank you for posting the clarification, I will be happy to help.

Our Sales person can take the USB containing image of RHEL 5.3 with complete application and this he can straight away run from the USB itself. No need to copy it anywhere.

This is impossible, our software doesn't provide you with this opportunity. The only way out I can propose is the following: You can restore the image to a virtual machine (please see this article for more information, a virtual machine is considered to be a dissimilar hardware) and place the .vhd disk to your USB hard drive. You can plug this USB drive to any computer and launch a virtual machine mounting this .vhd disk, but, as you understand, this computer should contain this virtual machine.

We have an install option by virtue of which we can straight away install RHEL5.3 with all our applicatios. This we would required in case USB access is slow.

This is possible. You can place the archive to your USB hard drive and create Acronis Bootable Rescue Media. You can boot the system from Acronis Bootable Rescue Media (you will get the access to the Acronis Backup & Recovery program interface) and create a recovery task. Please see User Guide for Acronis Backup & Recovery 10.0 Server for Linux available here (chapter 6.3).

Before recovering Linux Software RAID devices, known as MD devices, and/or devices created by Logical Volume Manager (LVM), known as logical volumes, you might need to manually create the corresponding volume structure.

Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.

Thank you.
