Help UNinstall of Acronis

Thread needs solution

Downloaded today 27 Nov. 2012 the latest edition Acronis WD ed. v14192 and upon attempted install received the following message.

"The installation was interrupted before Acronis True Image could be installed. Please restart the installer to try again. Cannot automatically install the following
products since their newer versions are already installed. Try to manually uninstall them before installing these older versions."

No product is listed. Turned off AntiVirus (MS Essentials) checked for any version of Acronis installed - None under Add Remove Programs.

Wherefore, program will not install. Any suggestions?

Running WinXP all updates, etc. with WD hard drive WD5000AAKB-00H8A0.

The WD Edition is a limited feature set release based on a release of True Image from a few years ago. We don't use it. You should request help from Western Digital, or post in their own forums where you'll find other users.

If you had an earlier version installed, or an earlier version of True Image (under "T" in Add or Remove Programs) then this could be a cause.

I tried a Trial Version of Acronis 2010 I beleive. Never could get it to install and/or work correctly. Had to remove it. Wherefore it must still not be completely removed. How do COMPLETELY remove Acronis - in other words, what Keyword(s) in the Registry do I look for?

Thanks!

Acronis True Image Cleanup Utility for 2011-2013: http://kb.acronis.com/content/34876
Be careful to follow all instructions, including not allowing the utility to reboot until you've made the Registry edits.

That didn't work either. Still get the same message as my first post above. Followed the instructions and used the cleanup tools. Don't know where any reference is buried. Searched in registry for Acronis, True Image and deleted all. And instruction NO. 6 - there was no such strings in the noted keys!

Any more suggestions how to REMOVE Acronis from my computer?

Can't install my WD Ed. until we can get past that step!

Thanks!

The Cleanup Utility is meant as a supplemental cleanup. It does not uninstall True Image. You need to have first done the normal, proper uninstall.

I did, but remnants remain. Anyone have an idea where they are?
Still have to completely remove Acronis from my computer.

Greetings,

In addition to what tuttle has suggested, you might try using safe mode (F8) option during boot, or using msconfig for selective startup and attempt again. However, as previously mentioned  WD Support or the WD Community forums might be the best place to seek assistance as this utility is not an Acronis product.  www.wdc.com

You must have missed the #2 (3rd actual) post where I mentioned I had installed Acronis 2010 (may have been v2011) and had problems. After which I uninstalled it and recently attempted to install the WD edition when I ran into problems with the previous installation.

Wherefore I am humbly asking - HOW TO COMPLETELY UNINSTALL ACRONIS?

Should be a simple answer ... Right?

Ahh, I did yes, thank you. The clean tool should remove a previously installed version. Have you tried my other suggestions?

Other ideas:
CCleaner, Revo Uninstaller...?

Don't know what you're suggesting to do in Safe Mode? but nothing in MSConfig about Acronis or True Image, etc.

These posts feature procedures to remove drivers for 2012. They might help you with earlier versions. Do backup of your system using Acronis before editing the registry!

Forgive me. I should have been more clear.

Safe Mode: Certain drivers and services do not load when a machine is started in SAFE Mode. It is sometimes possible to get a different outcome using a programs uninstaller. This is because services that are not running or in use can often be uninstalled or handled differently, removed cleanly, etc when they are not running or in use by the OS.

Using MSCONFIG is another means to this end, whereby only the sevices that the systems needs to start and run are loaded. This is a configuration tool that allows a selective start up configuration. Once again this situation can often present the ability to remove a driver or service that might not get removed properly in a normal start up configuration.

At one time, the REVO uninstaller was a popular 3rd party app that went the "extra step" when the windows installer wouldn't or couldn't, and was helpful removing remnants which might be left behind.

CCcleaner by piriform is another example of the 3rd party software that does a good job of cleaning up temp files and orphaned registry entries. I hoped these suggestions would give you some additional options.

Pat L's links provides some good information about where to look for changes made to the system when ATI is installed.
