Sync not working between two LAN PC's through PC to PC or PC to network share
I'm getting extremely frustrated by the sync feature.
I've been trying to sync two folders on two PC's that are on the same network. I had setup the folder "june" on my Windows Home Server and my main PC. I set this up Sunday night, did not see any errors, but the folders were synced so I didn't expect or notice any issues.
Today, when I found that the new files I downloaded last night on the server didn't copy over, I logged in and found several issues (feed not found, no network connection, errors in logs without details, both computers not showing the same sync's). I removed and re-added the sync several times to no avail.
Eventually I tried from the server side to just sync to a network share. That seemed to be added ok, but after 15 minutes, the logs says that its looked at the dir and synced and all that, but it doesn't. That dir had about 90 files and 45GB (with about 3-4 files new on one side). So maybe it was just crunching away despite the logs says it should be synced.
So I made another folder "august" on both sides with JUST a "test.txt" file on the server side. Still, it doesn't want to sync. This just wasted several hours of my time and I still don't have a solution.
Based on how many other people are having sync issues and the lack of Acronis support shows the commitment Acronis has to their customers (none). This feature was rushed out, and despite being as SP1 level, there is still no stability to the sync feature.
I signed up earlier tonight to be a 2013 Beta tester, but I feel like Acronis doesn't deserve my valuable time to find and fix the bugs in THEIR software. At first I thought it would be a way to get annoying bugs fixed that have been there for years, but I just can't take this frustration anymore.

Hello BCITMike,
Thank you for your post and your feedback, we really appreciate it.
We are aware of this issue and we are going to address it in Acronis True Image 2012 Home Update 3. I will make sure to update this thread once Update 3 is released.
I have forwarded your comments to our Customer Listening System and we are grateful for your suggestions. I had to modify your post a little bit because it did not comply with Forum Terms of Use.

I've had a similar problem and pretty much decided I'd try to create one more sync (could we call this A.sync? You know, for Acronis sync? LOL) deliberately NOT using Online Backup or Acronis Cloud or whatever this month's branding is, before just ignoring the function in your product.
I figure the apparently undeleteable default SyncMe using OB is there to start trials of OB (AC) that you hope will ripen into permanent streams of revenue for Acronis.
And the license on both ends requirement is to require at least one more purchase to make it work; but if OB ( AC) is not being used, there is no reason but lack of coding to require elaborate authentication on top of the already complex-enough requirements of my LAN.
Surely you know the rich and immense companies Microsoft and Google are offering sync storage online at a free level. Even Dropbox is doing that, and they have been at it far longer than you guys and have it working smoothly. Your product does not work smoothly, is difficult as Hell to configure, and is much slower than the other products, which I have tried. Currently, my grandfathered 25 GB of SkyDrive is taking care of my needs for Favorites and critical small files synced between machines in my house, even though I think I read everything is processed through the Internet. Your 250 GB at $5/mo. is a good deal at this moment in time, vis-s-vis other companies trying to sell that much capacity in the cloud. I just don't need it, and the appeal is probably to a small subset of PC users, although it might prove to be a profitable segment.
I look forward to this Update 3 you mentioned. Since I just bought two licenses (at a bargain rate, granted) just before or as 2013 was released, I wondered if that would be the last 2012 and I'd be expected to pay $29.99 per license for the version that came out just as I bought the old one.
Any light you can shed or code fixes you can bring to bear on this would be appreciated.

Stephen,
So that you know, this forum is for end users talking to end users. It is infrequently visited by Acronis employees who don't want to make this a support or feedback forum per se.
Your points about sync are, IMO, well taken, but it doesn't seem that you were addressing other users.

I felt obliged to come back and say that, well, I'll just paste what I emailed the support person upon being notified that I have been upgraded for free to the 2013 version:
RESOLVED completely in a way good for me as a customer. Thank you Jijo for your personal attention.
I also got the Sync working much more easily with the new version. After installing on both machines, the only adjustment I had to make is Change-ing the Sync folder from the SyncMe that appeared on PC #2, which had its own Sync going but Paused, to Sync like on PC #1, creating Sync in Users/MyName, changing to that from the Sync tab in the new version, and deleting the old SyncMe folder from PC #2. I tested sharing both ways; and it's working
fine. I will test syncing without Acronis Cloud across my LAN if it is (still) possible.
I will be having nice things to say about the resolution of these issues by Acronis and Customer Support and Jijo, for the version bump and the courtesy and the patience of support staff and the apparent improvement by the programming staff in a function that is new to your company, which has long been the master of backup and ranks #1 in the world as far I as I can tell.
My personal gratitude; and pass my remarks on as you see fit.

Anton,
Do you have an estimate for Update 3? The sync is terrible and currently when I go to view my sync configuration, the mouse sits there spinning indefinitely (I've left it overnight before) and won't pull up my sync configuration. I'm showing as logged in to Acronis, so its not a problem talking to Acronis servers even though its local/network syncing. I've tried rebooting my computer several times.
(Edit: It's working now. I can pull up my config. Just would have been nice for this to work weeks ago when I needed it and not go weeks without sync).
I also have event log messages saying that the acronis sync agent is constantly not responding for 30 seconds at a time. Usually happens back to back for a total of 60 seconds.
Also, I hope ATI2013 doesn't take a long time after click "OK/Next" during various sync config screens without appearing to be "working on it". It just looks like poor programming where the app looks like its freezing/hanging for like 60+ seconds. For example, its well over 60 seconds after changing a sync source (fyi, ATI2012 said destination didn't exist, when it did and same with source dir). The configuration box is now all white and won't return back to ATI sync config page while its "working". It probably took 2-5 minutes for that screen to go away, all while looking like it was in a half hung state.
I've always hated how long ATI took to go through configuration screens that took way longer than needed, and without properly indicating that it accepted the OK/Next. I'd click on OK/Next, nothing appears to happen for like 20 seconds until the next screen appears (not even mouse busy icon). This is not good programming and I don't experience this with other ATI competitors.
Lastly, I really hope that ATI2013 improves on sync notification. There is no indicator to tell people when something went wrong without them going looking for it. For example, I had noticed DU Meter (bandwidth measuring tool) showing that I was sending approx 900Mbps of data continuously for like 3 days between two networked PC's. This didn't make sense to me since the sync was setup days before, and they were already mostly sync'd with synctoy in the first place. I was really mostly expecting them to sync in minutes. So after 3 days of this, I go into Acronis logs. By looking at error log, I could see there was some file problem on one of my drives. There was some issue syncing a 20GB Tib file across two networked computers and it had renamed one of the files _servername I guess to indicate which was original on each computer. I could not delete one of them so it would just recreate the sync without an error message (I think it was saying file in use or something).
So I stopped the sync in ATI. Manually copied file to both sides and re-enabled ATI sync. Problem solved.
So not only did ATI not have good corrective action to resolve the file conflict, it also didn't make it aware to me through a taskbar notification that there was an issue. If this happened on an online sync instead of local network sync, my monthly bandwidth would be used up! That's just not acceptable for a paid sync application.
I really hope Acronis hasn't abandoned update 3 in favour of ATI2013. There are just too many glitches in 2012 right now to stop all development without offering a more favourable upgrade price.

Anton,
The most needed bugfix is to address the syncs from unsyncing/working. For example, I have it installed on WHS 2011, which has a raid 10. I have another windows 7 computer with raid5 on same network. I had setup syncs so that files on one or the other PC would update the other if WHS went offline or needed a reboot.
I can see that some of these dir's are no longer being sync'd. I go into Acronis Sync and still see it listed as a sync, except that instead of showing two folders, the local one and the remote one, it just shows one dir. You cannot right click it and re-set the remote folder.
I'm about to remove and re-add this sync to see if it will work again. But this happened for 3 out of 9 syncs setup.
Again, nothing in Acronis is making the user aware that things have problems and need attention. I only noticed this because files were not getting synced. You can still right click and tell it to sync and it will say it synced! Wtf it is syncing to, I don't know, just the incorrect status is going to throw the user off of finding and fixing the problem.
The 2012 sync feature is just NOT FINISHED. Acronis needs to update this product with the planned SP3 and get some much needed stability. It's been five months since the last release and nearly 4 months since you indicated there is an SP3 coming.
Please update the status on SP3 availability ASAP. It's been too long between updates and the fact that you have gone silent is not helping.
Regards
