Exchange 2003

Thread needs solution

Hello,

we are trying a 30 day version of Backup & Recovery 11.5 for exchange server and vmware.
when I attempt to install the exchange agent via exe or msi i get the following error. please note I've searched this forum for a few hours along with Google with no results.

Code: 05963789
Line tag: 0xb7378728facbc5d8
Message: The mailbox role is not registered.

exchange 2003 in a clustered environment and exchange 2010 in a coexistence. at the moment we are only trying to test backup for exchange 2003 servers.

we have a pre-sales meeting scheduled for tomorrow (Monday 12-10-2012) so I may be able to address this issue there.

Thank you.

Hello Gary Miller,

Thank you for posting this question in our forum.

You will find the information in this thread. You need the requested Hotfix as well the User, that wants to backup the Exchange database needs an active mailbox on this exchange server.

Let me know if you need additional help please.

Thank you.

Thanks for responding Peter Vigoureux,

I've installed the hotfix and created a user with domain admin rights, an exchange mailbox on the 2003 server and backup operator rights.
and i still receive the error message above.

The former programmer/developer in my is leaning towards this being the issue:
because I'm in a hybrid environment and exchange 2010 is the dominant email platform in our organization.
the software is detecting our domain as such and then looking for an exchange 2010 mailbox server instead of an exchange 2003 mailbox server.

I have tested part of this theory in that I successfully installed the exchange agent on the 2010 mailbox server using the 2003 user credentials with no problems at all.

the other side of it could be related to the clustering software which basically changes the exchange server name from the host machine name.
basically a server named exchange is a virtual cluster server hosted on server1 and server2. when a fail-over occurs the name is transferred between server1 and server2.

because the exchange server name is different from the host name the exchange agent may not be mapping the correct names when looking for the mailbox store.

please let me know your thoughts.

Hello Gary Miller,

Thank you for the reply.

Under normal conditions, the Exchange server is part of the domain. The product expects during installation an Exchange server standalone or cluster. Please be aware, that our product is not designed to migrate Exchange data from one version to another version. If you want to do this, please follow the instructions from Microsoft.

You should ensure, that only one MS Exchange product in your domain is running. Otherwise you can run into these problems.

If you need additional help, please feel free to contact support. You may find all available options in our Customer handbook.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
