TI2013/Win8: "Not Responding;" Had been OK initially

Thread needs solution

Installed TI2013 about 36 hours ago on Win8. All seemed good. Did one drive backup. Now, every time I start TI I get "Not Responding." Eventually, the program starts responding. I could uninstall/reinstall of course. I could try system restore, but my old lappy often fails to restore--whatever restore points are chosen. Any thoughts.

I too have had the same issue. I purchased TI2013 upgrade on 12/24/2012 build #5551 for a new windows 8 system. I keep getting the "Not Responding" message immediately after opening the program; however, it never starts. I've uninstalled and installed several times, but still get the same results. Can anyone help me?

Znod,

You seem to be having multiple problems with your setup, perhaps now is the time for some more information about your system and whether W8 is a vanilla install or an upgrade.

Have you 'twiddled' with any of W8 or the previous OS settings using any tweaking utilities, is there anything that might be considered non standard with your OS?

@Fred,

When you get your problem could you check in Windows Task Manager and see how many True Image entries you see, if more than one kill the duplicates and see if TI suddenly bursts into life.

If your machine is a brand name one, what utilties from the manufacturer are auto running on boot?

I have a new HP envy m6 system. To my knowledge, the only thing that is non-factory installed running at startup is the Road Runner McAfee anti-virus software. I've used TI2011 on 2 of my older machines (WinXP) and have never experienced any problems. Since I couldn't install the TI2011 product on my new Windows 8 computer, I started out with the trial version of TI2013. The trial worked great. I successfully made a couple of backups with it. I purchased and installed the upgrade and that's when I encountered the problem I'm having now. I tried going back to the trial version again and uninstalling and reinstalling the new upgrade several times, but nothing seems to work.

Fred,

If the trial worked OK then something has gone wrong during the upgrade.

1. I assume that 2011 had to be uninstalled for the 2013 trial to be installed?

2. If the trial version (which is the full version just locked) ran with McAfee installed, this can be discounted as a cause for the moment.

3. The trial version can be unlocked so no other install was required, just enter the new serial number and it should then ask for the 2011 serial.

It might be best to uninstall 2013, reboot, run the 2013 cleaner, and then reinstall 2013, reboot and see if it all works.

The cleaner is found here

No twiddling. Vanilla. Clean install. Win8 Pro. No dual boot. No UEFI. No problems with system period, except with TI2013. Thanks Colin.

Hi Colin. I replied to your post above. Please see my replies. I have been very busy and just now am getting around to dealing with the uninstallation of ATIH 2013 and its Plus package. There were no prior versions of any Acronis product on my machine when I installed.

I ran the installer to uninstall. After completion, the installer reported that ATIH 2013 was completely uninstalled. Yet, Acronis files remain in C: > Program files; the shortcuts have not been uninstalled; the Plus Pack still shows as being installed in Control Panel > Programs and Features; and the WinPE ISO builder still is shown as being installed in the Metro start screen (and it runs). I saw your list of what to dos to uninstall all features above. But, my situation is different from that of the poster you replied to.

Please let me know specifically what I should do from this point in eradicating all traces of Acronis TI 2013 and its plus package components.

Thank you very much,

znod

You have to uninstall the Plus Pack separately from the main program. Look for it in the list of installed programs. It is better to uninstall first the Plus Pack, then the main program.
You can use the cleanup utility after that to remove most of the remnants:

Thanks. Please check my post above. I still have two things installed. What do I do about the ISO maker? Actually, it may be a shortcut. Can't check right now--on a Mac and out and about.

Solved problem - TI2013 hangs on startup: I have been running TI for the past several versions; most recently I use TI2013 latest build; I do disk image snapshots as well as cloud backups and cloud/computer syncs between 2 computers; recently TI2013 started hanging on startup on my HP Envy running Windows 8.1 patched to current level; TI2013 had been working fine until recently and syncs and cloud backups continued to work fine notwithstanding the TI2013 hang on startup; after starting TI2013 I would get the message "logging in to sync server" (or something similar) and it would stay there forever; attempts to cancel the login or close theTI2013 window showed TI2013 as "not responding"; I used Process Explorer to see what was running and discovered that a subtask of TI2013 called cdrecord2.exe was the running subtask; I found a post somewhere on the internet that said that renaming cdrecord2.exe to something else would fix the hang; I did so and now have TI2013 back running; apparently TI2013 doesn't get upset when cdrecord2.exe goes missing; on Windows 8, cdrecord2.exe can be found in folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\CDRecord; hope this helps other with similar problems;
