ATI 2013 .TIB files show as Folder Type in Win8

Thread needs solution

I installed ATI 2013 to Windows 8 Pro.
The backups seem to be made properly but I can not explore/open them with windows explorer. Strangely, they are listed as FOLDERS and not as files. Double clicking on them does not open them as it would under Win 7.

In the Device Manager, under Acronis Devices, there is an Acronis TIB Mounter.

Right clicking does not give me the option of mounting the TIB either.

Please advise what to do you restore normal function.

Thanks JoWoz

Jo,

So you have installed True Image 2013 and Plus Pack 2013 build 5551.

Did you make a files and folders backup or a disk/partition image?

Are you imaging to an external drive?

What disk format is the drive using?

If you have a disk formatted as FAT32 and you are imaging more than 4GB in size files True Imane/Windows will split the files into approximately 4GB slices.

If you made a files and folders backup, these are not mountable, only complete disk or partition images can be mounted.

Could you use the Windows 8 snipping tool and post a snip shot of what you are seeing on your backup drive?

Did you make a NonStop Backup, which also isn't mountable or explorable in Windows Explorer?

This link will illustrate more in how to create a disk option backup.

Line #2 below inside signature will illustrate many of the various functions of the 2012-2013 backup procedures.

I'm making a full disk backup. It is less than 1TB. Same procedure as I've used under win7 with ATI2010 and 2011 but this is Win 8 and ATI 2013

I'll post a photo when I can get back to that machine.

It is possible that it is just the icon database that has become confused and your images are being made correctly.

What happens if you right click on a tib file, select properties and change the icon, does exploring then work?

I provide support for JoWoz and I have not been able to figure out why we can't browse .tib files from windows file explorer under win8 pro.

As you can see from the attached pic the .tib files are being recognized as file type Folder .

If the file associations dialogue is opened, what does Windows think opens a tib file?

I'm wondering if the file associations has become corrupted.

Maybe a repair reinstall of TrueImage would fix the file association.
Try restarting the True Image install program again and use the repair option.

The file associations is set to use Explorer to open the .tib, it just doesn't do anything when double clicked. The Change dialog gives the option to select it to be opened with Windows Explorer or with Acronis True Image Home

I'm not given the option to do a repair install. The only option I have is to uninstall

Colenel Bleep,

If the True Image installer is not giving you the option of a repair install, your installation is corrupted. In this case the answer is to uninstall 2013, run the 2013 cleaner, reboot and start the installation again.

The cleaner is found here.
