Problem with virtual machine cpu usage vmware (VMP8)

Thread needs solution

Every day when acronis is running the cpu is 100% and i have alert from vmware.

What can i do?

1.Is it possibile to reduce the number of concurrent jobs (now five, i.e. if i can set to 3)
2.Is the virtual machine better configured with 1vcpu than 2vcpu?
3.Other options??...

Hi Roberto,

The high CPU usage means that there is a lot of processing happening on the virtual appliance side and the most likely reason is that there are 5 concurrent jobs running as you mentioned. You can add more resources to the virtual appliance: first of all it makes sense to increase the CPU count (up to 4) and RAM amount (up to 2GB). Alternatively you can reduce the number of concurrent jobs.

Another possible option is to deploy another virtual appliance to the same host and distribute the load between the two appliances, i.e. each of these 2 appliances will be backing up their dedicated set of VMs and thus load on each of the appliances will be reduced. The drawback of this approach is that you'll have to manage these 2 appliances separately.

Thank you.

So based on your comments, If we increase our appliance from 2vCPU to 4 and ram from 1gb to 2gb, what performance benefits might we expect?
Is it possible to go higher than 2gb on the ram? Or is 2 the limit because of the appliance's OS/architecture?

Hi,

The maximum of RAM which make sense is 4GB since appliance is based on x32 bit Linux and thus all memory above this limit will be ignored. The CPU increase will result in faster processing (depending on archive compression settings there will be different outcome).

Thank you.
