Windows 8 - Scheduled Backups Not Running - True Image 2013 Home Version

Thread needs solution

Hi everyone,

I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro (64bit) on my laptop over the Christmas Holiday. Everything worked well, and recently my scheduled daily file and e-mail backups are not running. I'm not sure if a recent Windows 8 patch may have altered the Acronis Scheduler.

Thanks in advance for your help and support! Take care now!

John,

This is a known problem with some W8 installations. At the moment the only work around is to disable the fast boot option from within Windows 8.

I'm running Win8 Pro on an 8 month old dell laptop with TI 2013. Fast Startup is and has been turned off. Nonetheless, about three weeks ago, one of my scheduled backups stopped working. I can run it manually (most of the time), but it will not run as scheduled. Nothing shows up in the event log. My other scheduled backup continues to work properly. Any suggestions?

Brook,

Which build of TI 2013 are you using? Build 6514 (Windows based) is the latest.

Does Windows Event Manager show any problems?

I think there was an updated Scheduler patch, but if you have build 6514 the patch is included.

What are the task differences between the one that won't run on schedule and the ones that do?

Ultimately the quickest solution might be to make a new task, though that won't reveal the cause of the problem. Have you by any chance manually deleted or moved the archive, or maybe the task went to start and either the PC went to sleep or rebooted during the task or the destination disk wasn't available at the time. These things can cause the task to become corrupted and not work properly again.

Regarding no logs. Open the logs and use the "reset filters" option. This might display what is missing.

I am using Build 6514. Thanks for the advice about resetting the filter. That revealed the log entries, but there were no logged errors for last Friday, the day that the back up of my C: drive was to have occurred. There were two entries stating that the Acronis Nonstop Backup Service had started. (I don't use Nonstop Backup.) I have no idea where to look in the Windows Events Log for relevant data. While I'm willing to start a whole new backup task to solve this problem, I'd like to know why the scheduled backup has failed for my C: (OS) drive but is working as promised for my D: drive.

Brook,

In Windows Event Manager, just look for the error or warning symbol around the date/time the task should have run.

Referring back to my previous post (#4), what are if any the differences between the task that works and the one that has stopped?

You say you can run it manually 'most of the time' does it sometimes fail to run manually?

Did you edit the task at any stage?

What are the task parameters?

What happens if you delete the schedule (not the task), reboot your PC and then reschedule the task?

It might be worth hunting down the task script and seeing what time and date is shown in it for the 'next start'. However, this will just possibly show that there is an error, it won't show how the error occurred.

In Windows services, if the Non-stop backup or the syn agent are not being used,
I disable my services on both items.

I couldn't find anything unusual in the Windows Event Logs at the time the scheduled backup should have run last Friday. Earlier this morning, I turned off scheduled backups for this task and closed the program. I then reopened the program, scheduled a backup to run a few minutes ago, and exited the program. That backup and validation have finished successfully. I guess this mean that there was something wrong with the schedule. The only thing that I changed when I scheduled today's backup was the schedule itself, the rest of the custom settings remain unchanged (and are the same as the settings for my D: Drive backup, which has worked fine all along.
