Found one annoying bug - De-selecting subfolders don't work

Thread needs solution

I have found one annoying bug:

Let's say that you have D:\Folder\Subfolder. In D:\Folder there is let's say five files and in D:\Folder\Subfolder there is ten files. If i in the Configure file backup progress dialog select to back up D:\Folder\Subfolder that is what i get and that is expected. All files are backed up in all folders.

But, if i later decide to *not* backup the Subfolder and it's contents in the Configure file backup progress dialog it won't stick. The next backup you do will still backup Subfolder and it's content despite the saving you did in the Configure file backup progress dialog.

If you have large files in the subfolder/s it will cost time and storage for the backup. That's how i discovered it, since the backup took very long time since the subfolders contain very large files.

To reproduce:
1. In the Configure file backup progress dialog, select any folder with subfolders to back up. Select the top folder only to select all subfolders.
2. Click Save.
3. Click on on Settings to bring up the Configure file backup progress dialog again.
4. De-select the subfolders.
5. Click Save.
6. Click on on Settings to bring up the Configure file backup progress dialog again.

Actual result:
All subfolders and it's content is still selected for backup.

Expected result:
Since i un-checked to back up the subfolder and it's content under step # 4, i expect that True Image 2013 remebers that setting.

Workaround:
None

Additional info:
I have three (3) subfolders

Hello Roger,

Thank you for the report and I will contact you privately to arrange the details.

Thank you.

Hallo,
I got the same problem with the german version (family pack) of true image 2013 running on windows 7 professional.
Anything you can do for me, too?
Dieter

Hello Dieter,

I will update this thread with the results of the investigation and provide you with information when this issue will be resolved.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hello Roger and Dieter,

My name is Slava. I am from Acronis support team.

Thank you for reporting the issue.

I would like to comment on this behavior of True Image 2013 by Acronis.

Currently the workaround is the following:

1) click on the Settings link in the backup task in question

2) browse to the folders that you want to exclude and uncheck the parent folder

3) mark only those folders that you want to backup

4) click Save

The issue has been reported to our QA team and should be fixed in one of the future releases.

Regards,

Slava

Hello Slava,
thanks for the workaround, it works.
But I hope, that the problem is fixed in the next release.
Regards
Dieter

Hello,
I've discoverd the same problem with TI2013 and Windows 8 Pro.
But the workaround does not work for me, because new subfolders added to the parent directory are not added automatically to the backup now.

When do you think the bug is fixed?

Kind regards
Manuel

Hello Manuel,

Thank you for your message.

The situation you described is a bit different. If you need new subfolders to be automatically added to the backup the only way to do it is to mark the entire parent folder for backup. All the subfolders, existing and new ones, will be included in the backup.

If you need to exclude specific subfolders at the same time, the solution for you is exclusions list described at http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/ATIH2013/#3488.html

If you have any difficulty or something is not clear, feel free to ask.

Regards,

Slava

Hello Slava,

thank you for your reply. I tried your solution, but my exclusion dialog looks a bit different.
I cannot brows to a folder and if I try to specify a folder manually, the add button is diabled.
I've attached a screenshot.

I'm using the german version of TI2013 with Plus Pack build 5551.

Kind regards
Manuel
