Vmprotect 8 Exchange 2007 Error

The main error here is returned from the VMware API itself when vmProtect tries to operate with the VMware Tools inside the Exchange VM (required to perform Exchange-aware backup), i.e. when we try to use standard API calls:

In general it means that the VMware could not contact the VMware Tools inside the VM due to their unavailability. From our experience such issue is typically resolved by re-installation of VMware Tools (uninstall and install it in interactive mode) inside the VM. Or the VMware Tools service is simply stopped inside the VM.

Nothing to do... The backup does still not run... I updated our Appliance and the Backup Agent with the newest release, I uninstalled the vmware tools and installed them again, but I get still the same error message per mail...

I read the article you posted... I don't think a reboot of the ESX is necessary because the other backups on this server are running all...

So what can I do next? I really want to use Acronis vmProtect for our Exchange Server..

The error is now a different one actually and unrelated to VMware Tools issue which seems to be resolved. The path to Exchange database shown in the log file is obtained by vmProtect from Active Directory and looks like that the G:\ drive inside the guest OS has some specifics. Note that if you have Exchange database on a dynamic volume then you will get the same error (this is not supported: http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/AVMP8/index.html#18884.html ). Can you please clarify how this drive is seen in guest OS (is it a dynamic one)?

Hello

Thank you for the response. In fact, the Exchange DB was placed on a dynamic ISCI drive. We moved it to a basic ISCI drive (which is connected on the ESX Server).

Today we started a backup... Acronis worked fine till to about 99% percent (of the Acronis vmprotect backup Task). But then our server crashed, because the snapshot filled out the ISCI drive which had no more space at disposal? We had to adjust the amount of the ISCI drive (on our NAS), then added this amount to the ISCI drive which is connected to the ESX and then we were able to restart our server.

Can you please tell me what I have to do now?!

Aditionally now I have a message on our virtual machine which tells me: "Virtual machine disks consolidation is needed"...

The snapshot deltas are created by default in VM working directory (the same folder where .vmx file resides), however if this datastore is running low on free space then it makes sense to change the snapshot directory as described here:

Before doing so it definitely makes sense to consolidate the deltas into the base disk via Consolidate function in vSphere client right-click on VM->Snapshot->Consolidate (to get rid of "Virtual machine disks consolidation is needed" message).

The problem looks like that the VM had too many changes during the backup which resulted in huge delta disk which filled up the datastore. The same thing would happen if you created a snapshot from vSphere and then waited for some time (for the same time as backup is performed). This issue is in fact unrelated to the backup process itself, but rather to the VMware snapshot specifics.

Thank you for the response. I just consolidated the snapshots and the message is no longer there...

Now I just added 200 GB to this ISCI Drive and I will retry the backup this night... I hope this time everythink is working fine...
