Use Case: Creating a full image for recovery from a laptop before OS upgrade
Requirements:
-create full drive image(s) of laptop with ssd and sata that can be restored
-images will be pushed off onto an extarnal usb drive
Question:
Can acronis support this use case and if so then what would be the best option?
-would the best solution be to create bootable acronis media connect external usb drive and push images off to the external usb drive. Can this be done?
Reason for use case:
Existing laptop, lots of software loaded, windows compatibility check indicates that the laptop should be able to be upgraded as is only with the loss of Symantec AV program. Would like a mechanism to recover post win 8 upgrade, certain software programs do not run.

Use the Acronis True Image 2013 bootable Rescue Media to make a full disk mode backup.
Create a full disk backup, selecting the checkbox for the entire disk (not just individual partitions). That ensures that you have everything you need, and you won't need to understand how the disk is laid out with possible hidden partitions. A full disk backup captures everything, and is the simplest, safest backup method.
If the SATA is a separate physical drive from the SSD, and SSD contains the boot partition and OS partiton, I would create a separate backup task for each.
Boot from the Recovery Media, and choose a file-based restore and restore a couple of files. That will give you high confidence that you'd be able to do a full restore if you ever needed to.

Hi tutle. Thank you for your response. The SATA is a seperate physical drive from the SSD. The SSD does contain the boot partition.
Is there a technical consideration that would cause the backup to fail if one backup was created for both drives or is that just a "good idea" in general when doing backups for systems containing multiple drives.

I think it's just a good idea to keep physical drives in separate backups. But, AFAIK, True Image could do a single backup containing both drives.
Check out the many user guides and tutorials in the left margin of this forum, particularly Getting Started and Grover's True Image Guides which are illustrated with step-by-step screenshots.
