Open Fails - ATIH 2011 - "...has encountered a problem..."

Thread needs solution

XP SP3
AppVer 14.0.0.6942
ModVer 8.0.50727.6195

Thank you for the opportunity to submit this request for assistance. I was given the software at a trade show some time ago. It was never installed.

I successfully installed the software last night, 2/19/2013. The system downloaded the latest version before installing. I did not attempt to open the application until today.

Every time I try to open the application the MS error appears. Meanwhile, in the background it appears the app is attempting to load. The moment I close the error message, the app opening screen closes, as well. I tried many times.

What's wrong? Can this be resolved?

Regards,
Steve

Please do a search of your hard disk for msvcr80.dll, and post back your results. These errors are usually related to multiple copies of the files in the wrong places, or a corrupt copy of this file. The msvcr80.dll is installed by the applications that use them, but viruses, malware, registry cleaners, etc. can corrupt copies of them. If there is a copy of this file in Windows\System32, you should rename it to msvcr80.dll.old (in case something else breaks - you could always rename it back to the original name), as it does not belong there. Be sure to restart your system after renaming the .dll file

These are very difficult errors to track down and fix.

Also, doing a repair install of Acronis 2011 (start the 2011 install again to see this option) should write a new copy of the msvcr80.dll to the correct location on your system.

Let us know what you find out.

Exception in msvcr80 at offset 000046b4 most likely is not caused by this dll corruption, but by unhandled exception in the software (True Image). As version 2011 is no longer supported, you doesn't have a lot of choices - other than try to reinstall or upgrade to version 2013 (you can download the trial version to check if it works)

Fedor,

Thank you for this clarification.

James

James & Fedor,

Thank you very much for responding. I'll probably upgrade to 2013. Attached is a snapshot of the locations found for msvcr80.dll.

Best to you both,
Steve
