Error: Stage DescriptionCannot read the log file.

Thread needs solution

My backup has started generating this error:

CB Office BAK 12-20-12 Task execution failed.
Description: Stage DescriptionCannot read the log file.

Google brings up nothing on this error. Does anyone have a clue or a solution?

Thanks,

CB

Craig,

I take it this is a files and folder backup?

Is the above error message the file name or the path to the file?

Could you please attach your log file to your next post?

Has there been any software updates between the last time the backup worked correctly and now?

Where is the file being backedup to?

How long did the backup work correctly for?

Sorry it took me so long, I thought I'd get an Email notification when you replied.

This is an error from a differential backup with auto-cleanup, not a file and folder backup.

The message is neither the file name nor the path. The path is simply M:\MyBackups and it is an external drive that is working properly.

If there were any software backups, I was not aware of them.

The backup has been working correctly for since Feb 2 and I am backing up daily.

The log is attached. Thanks!

I've also been having the "COM Surrogate" error that has been reported in these forums. I suspect they're related. I'm going to uninstall, cleanup and reinstall.

I have recently encountered this problem as well:

"Daily Incremental Backup task execution failed.
Description: StageDescription Cannot read the log file."

I have three computers running True Image.  Two are working properly but the laptop has the problem.

When I try to run the True Image application directly I get:

"Unsupported 16-Bit Application
True Image.exe cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows"

What could cause this and how do I fix it?

Thanks in advance

Misanman,

What OS are you using and if W10 are you using the preview builds or the retail one?

From what you have written it sounds as though either your log file for the task has become corrupted or a 'helper' True Image program is having problems.

Are you able to open True Image? If you are, what happens if you make a new task, just a small one a file or folder, this will tell with True Image has become corrupted or if it is just the existing task.

Did this occur after updating True Image to the latest build?

Are all 11 services running in Services.msc?

You could try running a repair install of 2016 and see if that solves the problem in one go.

Cutting to the chase, I re-installed True Image and that solved the problem.

Other info:

Running on Windows 10 Pro - upgraded from Windows 7 almost a year ago.  Have had no problems with True Image and Windows 10 until just now.

I wasn't able to run True Image at all, which leads me to believe it became corrupted, perhaps during the last update.

Thanks for the quick response.
