Name of backup-file remains the same after copy

Thread needs solution

Hi,

After I clone a backup-task, I can rename the back-upfile. But the actual filename remains the same. So every clone will have the same .tib.

Can you please correct this.

Also when you want to change the name of an existing back-up task, the filename remains always the same.

No, create a completely new back-up task is the only workaround as far as my knowledge goes for now. And of course then make sure you don't make any typos :-)

Is support from Acronis looking into this?

Thank you.

Hello WIZZ and Astro187!

I would like to inform you that you are absolutely right - filename will not change when you changed the title of backup-task, it is "by design", but I will create appropriate request and let know our managing team.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Note that it is already possible to change the name of the backup file on a task which has been cloned.
After creating a cloned backup task, the name of task can be edited via Edit Settings. Likewise, the name of the backup file can also be changed or created via the same or new edit.
This change of name is possible via the Edit Settings option and then via browse function to storage folder location as illustrated below for a new or cloned task. This is the same procedure that is used when assigning a custom name to the backup file when the user wants the backup file name different from the task name. A new task or a cloned task are alike. Both require a visit to the storage folder for a custom name assignment to th e backup file.

These pictures are extracts froom my signature link #2 below.

Figure 6: Select Destination1

Figure 7: Browse for Storage Destination. Each task should have its own unique destination folder. Do not mix backup files from other tasks in same folder.

Figure 8: Assign folder name and assign custom backup file name

Task Name (Figure 18 ) also is relevant to Figure 8. The names of the backup files can only be changed as in Figure 8; whereas the task name can differ from the backup file name.
In 2013, all backup files will have a program added suffix to the *.tib name such as
   user assigned name_FULL_B1_S1_V1.tib
user assigned name_INC_B1_S2_V1.tib as per this link example

Understand that the backup file name is not task name and the task name is not the backup file name. The task name and the backup file name are two separate entities. They both may or may NOT carry the same name but that is a user controlled option.
