Error: the specified file does not exist

Thread needs solution

Currently I'm trying True Image 2013 Home (the 30 days test version) to see if I could create a backup of my drives:

Computer with Windows 7 64 Bit, 128GB SSD in GPT mode, 1,5TB data disk, 3TB video disk.
The backup drive is a usb3.0 drive with 2 3TB disks in RAID 0 mode, mounted in GPT mode. Windows has no problems viewing 5,6TB of disk capacity. Windows itself can write and read onto the drive without any problems.

Today I downloaded again a fresh test version of Acronis and tried to backup the SSD and the two hard disk to mz 6TB usb3 enclosure.

I receive as error: the specified file does not exist.

What is the problem here, and will the problem still exist if I buy Acronis?

Lutz,

Can you describe the steps you took until you got this message?

I simply tried to backup every partition in the computer to the external USB disk. The 1,5TB disk is a WD green disk, the 3TB disk is from Samsung.
The drives in the external usb3 disk are WD red disks.

The error also occurs if I try only to backup the two partitions on the SSD.

Can Acronis properly handle GPT drives (meaning without MBR)?

I can copy the videodisk without problems to the external drive (currently about 1,8TB in use).

I guess I have a clue what goes wrong. The video disk contains about 1000 files and in total 1,8TB are in use. Copying these files with the GUI by marking them, hitting copy, and further hitting paste on the target drive will cause windows to fail.

Doing the same with the robocopy command however succeeds.

Acronis fails on backing up this drive.

Any ideas why it fails? Does it make sense to play around with the priority of Acronis?

I am using True Image 13 and have downloaded the following fix:True Image 2013 by Acronis Upgrade (English)XXXXXXXX. In trying to recover a file from D:\My Backups\My_C_Backup_full_b174_s1_v1.tib, I click on recover and get the message "Cannot find version 6". I browse for it and select the D:\My Backups\My_C_Backup_full_b174_s1_v1.tib and try to recover it. I get a message "cannot find version 5". I can repeat the steps and the version number counts down to 1 and repeats with 6. I don't understand the reference to version x. What am I doing wrong?

I have not found the screen "File Recovery" shown in section 4.6 of ATIH2013_userguide_en-US.pdf.
Thanks,
Lippy

Lippy,

Lippy,

Acronis is looking for file versions that you may have deleted from your hard disk. If the backup was set to create full backups and either differential or incremental associated backup files, when trying to restore or recover the current backup (or a file from it), Acronis will have the old backup versions in it's internal database and prompt for the missing versions. You should continue to go through all of the error messages to see if you can eventually recover the file you wish. The reference to each file version error counting down from 6 to 1 many times is a result of the version chains (backup sets) of the full and any associated incremental or differential backup files having been deleted and/or moved. This process will continue until all of the errors are dismissed. Since it looks like you have backup #174 (My_C_Backup_full_b174_s1_v1.tib) you may have a significant number of these errors to cycle through.

Any ideas how to convince Acronis to work for me? I can buy license, that's easy. But can the official support then get it working for me?

Lutz,
It seems a good assumption that there is an issue with the backup destination. Can you try to backup the SSD to one of your other internal disks to verify that?
If you have a regular USB 2.0 disk, I'd try to backup to that disk on the same USB 3.0 port.
By proceeding by elimination, you should be able to determine whether the disk, the port or the USB drivers are at fault on your system.

If you can't, uninstall ATI from your system, and repeat your Window copy trial. It is possible ATI's USB 3.0 support is at fault...

Actually the usb3.0 port works fine and the drivers are signed by Microsoft. For Windows 8, the same driver is provided by Microsoft. I guess, but I have no proof, that the single disk holding the films is slowlyer than the external usb3 disk in RAID-0. I guess the external drive requests more data, and then the source cannot deliver it, causing the error.

Backing up the SSD *128GB or the 1,5TB disk causes no problems at all.

Another possible reason might be the amount of data per file and the amount of files, as it is a Windows 7 64 bits installation but no server edition.

The usb controller chip is this one: http://www.frescologic.com/products_show.php?ms=2&ps=5 (FL1009 from Fresco).
