Yes, the recovery CD can be made on any computer, and used on any computer. Your license is supposed to be used only one computer, though. A recovery CD can work on a computer but not another one because of lack of hardware support in the Linux drivers.

Thanks for you reply. i still dont know really how to go about it. i only need as of this time a USB bootable drive to be use prior to the set up of a new laptop computer so i can copy all factory softwares of the new computer.

You can not copy installed software from the old PC to the new PC, unless you restore the entire operating system from the old PC to the new PC.

Please explain more clearly what you want to do.

ok. i have a new notebook and old notebook. i also have a DVD/cd Arconis true image.

i was suggested to make a copy of my factory HDD upon startup of my new computer by pressing enter. use a USB bootable media( ACRONIS ) to make a copy of all the factory HDD prior to any set up so i can have a factory copy of all the software.

1. how can i make a bootable media ( usb ) , from an old computer? do i need to install the licensed Arconis to make a bootable USB?
2. or can i just download in my old computer a trial version of Acronis without using my serial license and make a USB bootable version of the Acronis to be use in my new computer?

Philip,

You can install 2013 onto another PC and make a bootable recovery USB that way or if you don't want to install True Image for the moment you can do the following.

1. Download the recovery ISO from your Acronis account.

2. Download RMPrepUSB from www.rmprepusb.com, follow their instructions to make a bootable USB stick.

3. Copy the True Image recovery ISO across to the USB stick.

Depending on which version of rmprepusb you have downloaded it will either auto boot the recovery ISO and you can then make an image of your new laptop, or if you have downloaded one of the older rmprep versions you need to make a menu.lst file (just add the text below to the menu file that comes with the download) which contains the following entry

# YOU must modify this entry if it does not boot
title Acronis True Image 2013 build 6514
find --set-root --ignore-floppies --ignore-cd /ti2013_6514.iso rename your downloaded ISO file to this name
map --heads=0 --sectors-per-track=0 /ti2013_6514.iso (hd32)
map --hook
chainloader (hd32)

Save the file to your USB stick.
This works, it is copied directly from one of my USB sticks.
If you have downloaded the latest beta version of rmprep, all you need to do is to copy the ISO to the _autoiso folder and it will automatically make the menu entries for you.
