Event Viewer constant error report

Thread needs solution

This error msg is constantly in my events log.

"Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error querying for the IVssWriterCallback interface. hr = 0x80070005, Access is denied".

Searched Microsoft and the implications are that it is something to do with the backup software I use. I use Acronis 2011.. Can anyone assist in how to prevent this constant error from happening.

Greetings,
If your back ups are completing successfully, this error can normally be disregarded. The VSS snapshot is MS based and provides the hand off to Acronis at the precise time a snapshot (back up) is being performed. Based on my understanding of the product, the errors that appear in the Event Viewer are a result of requests from the Acronis VSS service requesting a stop so a back up can occur. Errors in the event viewer occur between MS and Acronis because the MS VSS is not always in a state where it responds within the time the acronis VSS is expecting a response. It appears as a non critical error. This is not cause for alarm if the back ups complete and can be validated.

Oldshep,

If you are running any version of Acronis True Image Home, the VSS errors are not related to Acronis, as True Image products do not use Microsoft's VSS for backup operation.

The corporate products that Acronis produces can/do use VSS.
