Data transfer to SSD
I'm considering upgrading my hard drive to an SSD. Can I use the 'clone disk' option to copy all the data on my existing HD to the new SSD prior to installation? As I do not have a Windows 8 full installation DVD and the backup/recovery data is therefore on the original HD in various partitions will all of this clone successfully to the new SSD resulting in an exact copy of the original HD that I can perform system recovery with if and when necessary? Hope this makes sense.

Note Pat's last comment: "A preferred way is backup and restore". It's much less risky to use backup and restore. We MVPs respond to many users who suffered disasters after improper Cloning.

Noted...when I do upgrade to SSD then backup/restore is the way for me. Just out of curiosity what sort of disasters are possible with cloning and shouldn't Acronis give a warning??

The biggest disaster is cloning the target drive to the source by mistake. (Then you would have two blank drives!)
Cloning is okay if that is the only option and you pay close attention to the source and target disks.
Backup and Restore is more flexible and much safer.
