Licensing assignment error

Thread needs solution

I have two hyper v servers and one physical server. I have
1 - ABR 11.5 VE for hyperV, assigned to HostA (hyperV server)
1 - ABR 11.0 VE, assigned to HostB (hyperV server)
1 - ABR 11.0 advanced server, assigned server HostC (physical file server)

The problem is that I assign the 11.0 license to HostB but for some reason after some period of time the licensing server reassigns the license to HostA, even though HostA already has the 11.5 license assigned.

I can revoke the 11.0 license on HostA and reassign it to HostB and backups run fine for a while then for some reason the licensing reverts back to HostA again.

Anyone know why this would be happening?

Hello Jeff Gillivan,

Thank you for posting this question in our forum. I am happy to assist you.

Please be aware that you can run a mixed environment only, if the Acronis Management Server and all other management components are running from Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5. If your management environment is version 11, you need to update this to 11.5 to get off this issue.

If you need additional assistance, please create a system report of the affected machine and contact support. You will find all available support options in our Customer handbook.

If there is anything else we can do for you, please let me know.

Thank you.

Peter,

The management server is HostA which is running ABR 11.5 Hyper-V (all components installed). HostB has all of ABR 11 Hyper-V components installed except the management server.

Hello Jeff Gillivan,

Thank you for your reply.

As I understand, the host A holds the complete management components, including Acronis Management Server and Acronis Storage Node. On host B you have only installed the Agent for Hyper-V. Is this correct?

If yes, is there a reason, why you did not update the Hyper-V Agent on this machine?

I have not found the account, where all related licenses are registered. You need to ensure, that your Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 licenses are not upgrade licenses, that needs the same number of licenses from a previous product.

If you need additional assistance, please create a system report of the affected machine and contact support. You will find all available support options in our Customer handbook.

If there is anything else we can do for you, please let me know.

Thank you.

Peter,

I did not update the agent on HostB because I do not have a valid license for more then one 11.5 host installation. I must use the v11 for hostB and V11.5 for hostA. Unless you want to give me another license for 11.5 at no charge then I am stuck with 11.5 and 11 between the two virtual hosts.

It has been my understanding that the newer versions are backward compatible. Is this not the case.

Hello Jeff Gillivan,

Thank you for your reply.

To come back to the initial question, you can ensure, that you have entered the license server via IP address, instead of dns or fqdn name.

Please apply this changes on the host B, that runs the ABR 11 Hyper-V agent:

  1. Go to Start (or Win+R) -> run -> regedit;
  2. Navigate to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\MMS\Configuration\License
  3. Modify the subkey LicenseServerAddress, type in the IP address of License Server and press OK;
  4. Restart all Acronis services on this machine;
  5. You need to reassign the license for this machine via Acronis Management Console (Go to Help -> Change license).

If you have installed all Acronis Management Components with ABR 11.5, there is no problem to manage the 'clients' with ABR 11 agents.

If you need additional assistance, please create a system report of the affected machine and contact support. You will find all available support options in our Customer handbook.

If there is anything else we can do for you, please let me know.

Thank you.
