cannot write to sector ##### disk is read only
Hi, I have TI Acronis Home 2009. Windows XP. When trying to back up C drive to an external USB drive using the bootable CD, I get "cannot write to sector #####, disk is read only" errors. I followed procedure to make external USB drive "optimum performance." Also downloaded the latest build of TI Home 2009, build 9809.
The Home 2009 build 9809 installation DID back up the C drive to the external USB drive; however, I made the bootable CD using this latest build and it will not back up the C drive to the external USB drive, giving the above stated errors.
The new bootable CD looks like an older build of Home 2009, not like the installed build 9809 Home 2009.
Any solution?
Thanks in advance!

Hi, I also ran chkdsk /r which passed okay. Also plugging the external USB drive directly into USB port on back of computer. Thanks for your continued help.

Ben,
It is possible that the 2009 bootable media (Linux based) does not have proper support for your system's USB controller.
In the installed version of the program, True Image depends on Windows drivers, and the bootable media relies on Linux drivers.
The bootable media (Linux) drivers can not be updated.
Have you tried ALL of the USB ports on your system?

Hi James,
I tried all three groups of USB ports on the computer but each one produced the error. So I tried backing up to the D: drive and that succeeded. Then I started windows and copied the backup file to the external drive for safety.
Thanks everyone for help, especially the note about the CD being a linux OS and USB drivers not being upgradeable. The USB drive was recognized by the linux OS but apparently there is some further problem.
