[RESOLVED] Recovery problem
Hi,
To make it short and I am not sure that I can give accurate answers to any questions asked of me; quite sometime ago I installed a trial version to an external (roaming) hard drive. This drive had no operating system one it but Acronis backed up data to it. THEN, THE ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE.
My system went down and in all of the gyrations I went through to get my data back, I COULD NOT. I think that all of the data is still there but with a new hard drive and o.s. in the machine, I cannot access the external drive since it has no o.s. on it.
That is my only copy of data AND ACRONIS WON'T LET ME GET TO IT TO TRANSFER IT.
IS IS ME OR ACRONIS? I THINK ACRONIS BUT WILL ADMIT THAT I AM WRONG IF SHOWN TO BE.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Joe

Acronis offers you the ability to try its software free during the trial period. During this trial, the software and all of it's features are fully functional. After the trial period you do need to purchase and activate the product to continue using the software. A trial version of the Boot Media also expires and cannot be used indefinitely.
If you need to recover data, I would recommend purchasing the software. I've never tried to download a second trial of the bootable media. You might need another email account?? One of the MVP's might have experience with this. Either way you're going to be in the same situation in about 30 days again. I am not aware of Acronis doing anything to hold your data hostage.
What operating system are you running?
Did you leave your external drive connected to the computer when you reinstalled the OS?
What happens if you plug your disk into another computer?
I know the during the trial, one can exercise its full utility.
Thank you.
Joe

You're saying that, even if you decide not to buy the product, you should be able to use it indefinitely. That is unreasonable.
joe bleaux wrote:No intelligent human being expects to use trial-ware indefinitely
And yet you seem to expect exactly that.
You had free use of the product for 30 days. That seems to be sufficient to judge its worth. If you want to continue to use it, buy it. It's not expensive. If your data are so valuable that you can't risk losing it, then True Image would be a good investment.

You're free to request support directly from Acronis, provided free for reocery issues with the paid software. Oh, wait, you can't since you never bought the software. LOL.

Joe,
After the trial expires, the Windows based installed application will cease to operate, but the trial Rescue Media (You did create it didn't you?) will continue to be able to restore from the backup files you created during the trial.
If you do not have a copy of the Rescue Media (or if your copy refuses to work), sign up for the 2013 trial and register the trial serial number given to you into your Acronis account. You then will be able to download a disk image file (ISO) that can be used to create a bootable copy of the 2013 trial Rescue Media. You should be able to boot your system up to this Rescue Media and restore from your backup files.
The trial Rescue Media does not have a time limit on doing restores, it is limited by features (recovery only) not time.
You do not need to install the 2013 trial to use the bootable Rescue Media, as it is a standalone copy of True Image 2013.
