Unable to boot from CD or Acronis Startup Recovery Manager (F11)
I am using a trial version of Acronis Backup and Recovery 10, build 10.0.11133 on Windows XP SP3. In general I like the product and I would probably buy it, but I have a serious problem: I am unable to boot from Acronis Startup Recovery Manager (F11) or from а CD I created from the program.
When I attempt to boot, I get the menu asking if I want to start Acronis or continue to boot Windows, and if I select Acronis, my laptop locks up. My understanding it that when Acronis creates the bootable CD it automatically adds all the drivers it needs.
Another problem is I have to create the snapshots without using Volume Shadow Copy, otherwise I am getting "Pause" and "Reason Unknown". I understand this is the major issue that will be fixed in the next build, and this is something I could live with for now.
Please help me! I understand that trial users might be not in the high priority support list, but how can I buy a product that doesn't work as advertized?

Same problem here. The notebook locks up when I attempt to boot from CD or F11, but same CD works fine on a desktop PC. The CD was created on a laptop.

Can you help me with this problem, please? My trial version will expire in a few days. I was going to buy, but how can I buy a program that doesn't quite work?

Hi guys,
Do you have your computer BIOS set to try booting from the CD-ROM drive first, before then trying to boot from a hard drive? Try that and then see if you can boot from the Acronis Recovery CD. Note that the CD has to be in the drive so that your computer's BIOS will "see" the bootup CD in the CD-ROM drive. I usually go into BIOS during boot, pop my Acronis Recovery CD into the CD-ROM drive, and then simply exit the BIOS setup so that my computer will see the CD in the drive.

This is not a CD boot problem. I am able to boot from CD up to the point where I can select to boot to windows or to acronis recovery, and when I select acronis my pc locks up. Looks like a driver problem, but I created the boot CD from within the laptop and the acronis program shold be smart enough to include all the necessary drivers. Unless I am missing something else.
Acronis support do not reply, and my trial version expires tomorrow. I guess they don't need my money :-(

Bootable CD you create runs Linux, and is the same regardless of where you create it, and the set of drivers is the same. If it doesn't work on your hardware (what exactly?) you may try all this ACPI=Off black magic to make it work.

I tried ACPI=off and my laptop still doesn't boot. Is it possible to force it to boot with startup recovery in "safe" loader mode (without USB, SCSI, PC Card drivers)?

Hello all,
Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help. Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.
I would like to share the steps you can perform to troubleshoot the issues with Acronis Bootable Media.
1) Please make sure that you are using the latest build of the program. You can find out the build number by selecting "Help" option, "About" (if you use Acronis True Image Home 2009 or Acronis True Image Home 2010, you can check it navigating mouse cursor to upper line of the program then press ALT + left mouse button -> Help -> About).
The list of the latest builds is available here. You can learn more on how to download the latest build here.
Install the latest build, recreate Acronis Bootable Media and see if the issue remains. Please not that using the latest build can solve the similar issue with Acronis Stratup Recovery Manager.
2) If this doesn't help, please try the "acpi=off noapic" parameter (special thanks to dev-avon).
- Acronis Bootable Media that you can generate in your Acronis product. This type of media is based on Acronis Loader;
- Acronis Bootable Media that you can download from your account on the Acronis website. This type of media is based on ISOLINUX.
You can find the information on how to download the appropriate ISOLINUX file in this article. Please see this article on how to burn an ISO file to a CD disk.
alentsa,
Since ISOLINUX file is unavailable for the trial version (I have requested this option from our web masters some time ago), I am sending the appropriate file to you via PM, please create a new CD and see if the issue remains.
Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawless for you.
Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.
Thank you.
