Can't connect to Synology NAS

Thread needs solution

Hi
Recently installed a Synology NAS. Am able to 'see' the drive and access files on the NAS with Win7. But when attempting a backup, the NAS does not show up in ATI. I am able to locate it in the ATI directory tree under Network, but when it asks for user name and password, I'm stuck. I entered the same user name and PW that I used when setting up the NAS, (and that I use via Windows to manage the NAS) but it will not connect. Even tried the router's login and PW, but still no go.

Any thoughts? Have been successfully backing up data to an eSATA drive for the past 3 years, so I know that part works fine.

Using ATI Home 10. The Synology website lists compatibility with version 9 and 11, so I had thought that 10 would also work. (Have read in forums that there have been problems with the 2013 version as well, but that may be related to different issues.)

Thanks in advance.

When using ATI with a network drive, use a UNC path to your NAS device for a backup destination, not a typical friendly "mapped" drive. e.g.
\\192.168.2.25\My Backups\

I believe it may also be possible to use a UNC path that includes server name rather than IP, such as
\\server1\My Backups\
But, no forum user has yet confirmed that.

Appreciate the quick repsonse. But when I click BROWSE, I see the NAS listed (VNET). There is no place to type in a manual location, as the dialog box is asking for the name of the file to be used for the backup, not specify a location. (see attachment). I have a few folders on that drive, but cannot get to any of them, as I get stopped by the password dialog box that comes up when simply trying to access the NAS.

Both of MVP tuttle's suggestions work with my QNAP NAS. Even with network discovery enabled, TI does not automatically detect a NAS drive. Once you start typing in the destination path, you will be prompted for a username and password. You have to use the the username and password that has permissions to access the NAS share you are saving to.

Example (how I use mine)

\\[server name or IP]\acronis\6-18-13\mybackup.tib

shadowsports, thanks for confirming that the server name path works!
