TIH 2013 - bootable rescue medium does not support keyboard on MS surface pro
Hi,
I am using TIH 2013, can create and read backups, everything fine so far. When I boot from the freshly created bootable USB stick, I can choose 1 or c, when pressing 1 to boot into the recovery option the recovery tool opens - but the keyboard and touchpad do not work any more, no chance to do anything.
Latest version, bought, downloaded and installed just today. Machine is a MS surface pro with win 8.
Any ideas?
Ralph.

Ah, thank you for the tip! Is this the ATIH2013_de-DE.iso? This is the only iso I can find...

Tried it - same behavior. The image has a creation date 04-04.
It is not a wireless keyboard, it is connected to the tablet. Unfortunately I only have notebooks, no USB keyboards, but I will try tomorrow at work with a conventional keyboard.

OK, some more information. Only the media created from the installed TIH installs UEFI stuff and boots. When I install the downloaded image over the files on the USB stick nothing changes, no keyboard. When I reformat the stick, no boot at all is possible from it, due to missing UEFI stuff.
The PC is an UEFI-only-machine, it will not boot any normal "BIOS" bootloaders. So at the moment I am stuck and can not restore any backup, as the machine only has WLAN and USB. No working boot from USB mass storage device, no restore :-( This way Acronis True Image Home is useless...

No. I know the English language version was updated. I don't know about the German versions. You might ask in the German forum.

The ISO can not be used to create a UEFI bootable USB flash drive, only a CD/DVD.
If you open a support ticket with Acronis, they can (at your insistence) provide you will a full working install file that includes the GPT/keyboard/mouse fixes. You can then use this installed version to create USB media that "should" boot your tablet.
Additionally, you may be able to obtain the installation file via PM with the forum moderator:

OK, I understand. Anyway I prefer the english versions, they did not ask but sell me German software, because I live in Germany :) So I will open a ticket. Thank you!

Hello, Ralph,
I found a workaround for your problem. A little strange, but it works...
My rescue medium is a USB-Stick.
I start my Surface pro with this stick inserted (of course, in UEFI, secure boot is disabled). Type cover attached.
After a time, I have to choose 1. Acronis True Image. Keyboard still works. Key in 1.
After a time, True Image starts, but mouse or Keyboard does not work.
Now I unplug the USB-stick and attach a USB-mouse: This mouse now DOES work.
And now the wonderful thing: I unplug the USB-mouse, plug in the USB-stick again, and the touchpad suddenly works . I can choose everything I want to.
Did just work for me.
Good luck, for what can we do when our Surface gets ist first catastrophal crash, Windows stops working and we MUST set it up again???
Best wishes from Wulf Gerdts
