Backups fail with "Cannot find any disk or volumes to back up"

Thread needs solution

I have AVP 8.0.8184 that just started having this problem last night, after installing a second appliance of AVP 9.0.9729 beta.

The scheduled jobs, and also jobs I try to run on demand all fail with a log simular to this:

Task 'FTP' failed: 'Failed to create a backup.

Any idea what the fix is? Right now I will reboot the virtual appliance and try to force that job again.

The version 9 beta had 100% successful jobs so I'm about to move everything to it.

Update:

Rebooted virtual appliance. I tried that same Linux ftp server to back up "ftp" as in the log I pasted above. It worked fine.

Maybe it just needed a reboot? Installing version 9 beta disrupt something in vsphere environment that the older version needed rebooted?

Anyway, I have half my machines on 8 and half on 9.

Hi KJSTech,

The error message you quoted in the first message unfortunately doesn't reveal the root cause of the problem. It indicates that some VM in the backup task could not be opened because its disks were inaccessible (another symptom is "Disk is skipped" warning in the log file). Not sure how reboot of appliance could fix this type of problem. Can you please attach the full log (View->Show Logs->Save All To File) to this thread, so that I can check both failed and successful backup attempts and make more precise analysis?

Thank you.
