iSCSI support

Thread needs solution

I'm testing a trial version of Acronis Backup and Recovery Advanced Server Virtual Edition 10 and would like to use an HP iSCSI device as my storage and would like to know if it's supported or not - I can't find any documentation anywhere.

We run ABR AS VE with storage on a MSA2012i Array, so yes its is!

However, ABR AS VE 10 can not backup Hyper-V R2 machines, as this is the problem we are having.

I'd be interested to find out how your trial goes, and if your using Hyper-V R2

Hello Dan,

Thank you for your interest in [[http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/ | Acronis Corporate Products]]

I can confirm that HP iSCSI is supported as a storage device.

Thank you.

Hey Oleg,

Do you know if Regular Acronis Backup/Recover Advanced Workstation works with iSCSI?

Hello acronis_user1,

Thank you for that question,

and yes, sure, we confirm that all Acronis Backup and Recovery products supports iSCSI. Should you face any issue with identifying it - just let us know, we will resolve the issue for you.

Thank you!

I have ABR10 with an HP D2D 2500 via iSCSI. I can see the device. But when I try to back up to it, it says that I need to load tapes. The D2D has a library with blank tapes.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dave

I'm doing a trial of Advance server. I'm having issues like Dave Klewe with a Tandberg Data DPS 1000 VTL. Is asking me to load a tape . . . or does Acronis not support a VTL?

Dear Dave and Michael!

Thank you for your comments and for keeping us updated regarding this question. I would like to assure you that VTLs are supported as well - actually we tested our software on it while our physical libraries were unavailable.

I have checked our support tools - we do not have any reported issues regarding tapes not recognized, so I assume the root of the problem lies in the settings glitch. You can run into issues in 2 cases:

  • you access the tape on Windows 7 or 2008 through Storage Node (it will not be available due to SN accesses tapes through RSM, which is not present in these two OSes). Please check this article for more details.
  • you have Symantec's Backups Exec installed

    In other cases everything should be fine. Due to the lack of diagnostic data it is difficult to identify the reason, and we will need some additional information. Could you please kindly specify:

  1. Whether the tape is set to be free
  2. The exact sequence of steps that lead to the issue
  3. OS of the machine in question
  4. Whether the tape is connected to the machine locally. If yes, and it is set as free, than please kindly do the following:
  5. Download a special Acronis utility
    Unpack the archive to C:\
    Start the command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd);
    Run the following command:

    C:\tapes.exe > c:\tapes.txt

    Locate the C:\tapes.txt file;

  6. Get Windows System Information File;
  7. Should you connect to the tape through Storage Node, please follow the below instructions
    - Check that RSM is not Disabled and its Startup Type is set to Manual. Click for instructions.
    - Prepare tapes for backup using RSM on the machine with Acronis Backup Server installed. Click for instructions.

I would also advise you to check the article regarding tape compatibility for more information.

I completely share your concern and would like to guide the case till its complete resolution, so I would appreciate if you could kindly keep us posted.

Should you have any further questions or concerns - just let us know, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you in advance for cooperation!

We will be waiting for news from you.
