Corrupt image file -how to fix it ?
I get the following error message when I want to open a backup created with Acronis True Image:
Selected file is not Acronis True Image archive or is corrupted. Please select another backup archive.
In the attachment there are two Screenshots with more detailed error messages...
any chance to open this (once verified) backup file?

If indeed any bit in any byte has changed sicne the file was created, then the backup file is totally worthless for a full restore -- however, you may be able to explorer it with explorer and copy out some individual files.
When ATI say a file is corrupt or invalid, what it means is that it can't read it and very that it is unchanged since it was first written. That situation coudl be do to a corrupted file or to ATI being unable to read it. For example, sometimes people make a perfectly good backup from within windows and then when they boot up the CD to do a restore, the linux version of ATI can't handle the backup drive and says it can't read the backup (although the way it says this is to state that the file corrupt or invalid). If this is the situation, you need to get a version of Linux/ATI with diff drivers to work better with your hardware.
If you're getting the problem and you did the backup and attempt validation from within windows (without rebooting) then the backup file is probably junk and the most likely cause is a corrupt drive or one or more locations in memory is intermittently bad -- one of the far out locations that rarely gets used exept by ATI when streaming a big file. YOu can check the disk for some comon probs with chkdsk (it won't detect filename case probs but those are rare. You can check memory with memtest -- letting it run overnight.

After the creation of .tib file I've changed one of his attributes and made it "hidden", as appear later on if the .tib file is hidden it could not be restored or even mounted, which is strange behavior in my opinion. The same error appears once I've changed the name of the file, so probably, best solution is not to touch in any way the files created by True Image. After revert the attribute, or name all is gone OK with the restoration.

You're saying if you undo the changes, then the tib behaves correctly in ati?

If so, then it's a program design/coding error. Changes that don't effect the content shouldn't be treated by the program as if they do. I haven't had time to try this on a newer version to see if this issue is resolved in later version.

Hi. I know this is an old message, but I am getting this corrupt problem using True Image 2017, but to give the image it due I have come to this because I have just been "Ransonised" by Ransonware, and all my backups are encrypted (according to the Sender!!)
However the only real thing I can see id that they have changed the name of the file by adding extra characters.
I have removed them and True Image sees the file but still say is it corrupt.
Does anyone know how one can get the file back so I can restore my system???

Peter, welcome to these User Forums. Sorry but this particular forum is for obsolete Acronis products and this particular topic has been untouched for 4 years.
Sorry also to hear that you have been subject to ramsomware which has corrupted your backup files, especially as the purpose of such malware is to encrypt your files and require you to pay to unlock them!
Changing the file name of your backup files will not decrypt them so unless you have other backups held offline or which have not been encrypted by the ransomware, then you are out of luck. I would not recommend paying to unlock the encrypted files as there is no guarantee that you will get the data back but a 100% guarantee that your money will be taken regardless.
