Installation of latest update to True Image 2013 fails !
Good morning,
I have tried to install the latest update just released over True Image 13, and am getting an error message during installation. I am installing with admin rights.
I enclose the install file generated by Acronis. I cannot work out the reason for that situation. Can anyone please help ? I am running Windows 8. My support contract has just expired, so I cannot ask Acronis directly.
Thank you in anticipation and best regards
René

Attempted several times to install new version Build 6514 for True Image Home 2013 with Plus Pack on a Windows 7 system. Never has worked and get one error message as follows: MSI (s) (8C:C4) [22:42:47:479]: Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: True Image 2013. Product Version: 16.0.6514. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Acronis. Installation success or error status: 1603. Have full verbose error info. Another error message says: Installation has failed. Fatal error during installation. Module C:\Program files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\backup_cpl_Control.dll failed to register. HRESULT1073841819. Contact your support personnel. Is there any way to resolve this problem? Thanks for any comment.

Morris,
I'm unclear does build 5551 work or does that fail as well?
Do you or have you had an earlier build or version of True Image installed?
If yes to the question above, had you selected to integrate TI into Windows Backup?
If you open Control Panel, what happens when you select Backup?
What is needed from the MSI log are the entries that have a -3 exit code at the end of the line.
Is your system a home one or one that has been provided by a company IT department, where a group policy might be enacted?

Present Build 5551 works OK. Has done so since installation. Have Plus Pack with this version.
Have had an earlier version of TI Home 2012 installed, before buying the TI Home 2013.
Have selected integrate into Windows backup. This is the only backup used on this home computer.
When open Control Panel, it refers to Acronis 2013 and lists Partition backup.
No lines in the MSI log end in -3.
There are many entries in the MSI file with a "-3" in them, similar to the following:
MSI (s) (88:4C) [22:41:50:063]: Executing op: FileCopy(SourceName=AVANT_~1.XML|avant_browser.xml,SourceCabKey=_918BE2057A565EB840891B8C4E4C5AA0,DestName=avant_browser.xml,Attributes=1536,FileSize=7127,PerTick=65536,,VerifyMedia=1,,,,,CheckCRC=0,,,InstallMode=58982400,HashOptions=0,HashPart1=-144648403,HashPart2=1147521939,HashPart3=-334653350,HashPart4=-340762060,,)
Also many like the following:
MSI (s) (88:4C) [22:41:50:223]: File: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\BackupScripts\image_sute_2006.xml; Won't Overwrite; Won't patch; Existing file is unversioned and unmodified - hash matches source file
The MSI file is 18 MB and limit on sending it to Acronis is listed as 15 MB.

If you hadn't already, try uninstalling the PP first and then either uninstall build 5551 or install 6514 over the top. If that doesn't work, you might need to use the Acronis Cleaner and then try installing.
Normally the 1603 process will have an exit code at the end and where a failure has occured a -3 code. These are listed at the bottom of the log file.
Here is what you are looking for towards the bottom of the log file, these are listed in reverse order, so you have to move from the top of the log file downwards to find the same numbers listed but with what has actually failed. Now the ones in the screenshot below are not fatal, so yours will look different.
Are you installing for all users or single user?
Do you log on to your system or boot straight into the desktop?
If you de-integrate True Image from the Backup cpl does the control panel item then open Windows Backup as it should have done before integration?
Entries towards the bottom of the MSI lofg file.

The corresponding entry somewhere in the top half of the log file.

I'm not sure that's even an issue or option anymore with True Image, is it? I seem to recall when installing ATI 2012 or 2013, there was no such installer option.

Uninstalled PP and same result happened. Same error message and failed to install.
Installing for a single user.

Morris,
Unfortunately the top part of the log you have provided doesn't contain the errors pointed to by the bottom part. :)
You see where what you have posted contains 'Note: 1: 1402 2:" you need to find 'Note: 1: 1622 2: Error 3 entries.
Have you tried running the Acronis Cleaner, that might get you up and going more quickly.
Also make sure your Windows Temp folder is as empty as Windows will allow - press Windows Button + r then type in %temp% this will take you to the correct Temp folder.
Pay special attention to the warning about checking the registry before rebooting in the instructions on that page I have linked to, I would also suggest right clicking on the install file and selecting 'run as Admin' to install. that way all bases are covered.

I had problems downloading the install file until I turned off my virus checking software. Thereafter, I got a good download and the install then proceeded (after entering codes for older version and 2013 version). In the end I received a message that the installation was complete. However, the program is not listed in my start menu, nor is it listed in the installed programs displayed by the Control Panel, programs.
What now? I did not "run as admin". Perhaps I should try another install and do that. I fail to see why this is required, because the operating system should know my status, no? I am the only person who uses this computer.
I cannot install the plus pack, which I need to clone my hard drive (that is trying to fail I suspect) and replace it with a new device. My grand plan depends upon Acronis working as advertised.

Richard,
Make sure you uninstall any old versions or builds of the Plus Pack before you try to install a new version or build.
Run the TI 2013 installer again and select 'repair', this ought to correct your problem.

If all installers were written perfectly, it might not be required.
But, I find it better to be safe than sorry.
I have two Windows user accounts on my PC:
- a standard user account, that is my normally used account
- an administrator account, that I use when doing installations, system adjustments, diagnostics, etc.
I think it's good practice to perform all installations from the administrator account, and to agree to UAC elevation when prompted. As I say, perhaps it shouldn't be needed, but it avoids a lot of problems.
