True Image 2013 v.6514 very slow load time.

Thread needs solution

Greetings,

Since installing my new Lite-On model iHBS312 BD/DVD/CD SATA drive, True Image 2013 v.6514, as well as Disk Director Suit v.11.0.2343 load times have been very slow, around 3-4 minutes. The load times were much, much quicker previously.

I'm posting here just in case someone has seen, or heard of this kind of issue before.

Long time user,

Mauri Berg.

Do any other apps load slowly?

Thanks for your reply, 'tuttle',

TrueImage is the only app I load from a boot disk. However, the Lite-On drive does behave erratically when playing CDs or when installing software from a CD or DVD, slow to start sometimes. I expected a SATA drive to be faster than my 'old' IDE one...I tried contacting Lite-On support but found it impossible.
I only posted here in the hope that someone may recognise what my problem might be.

Ah, so this is when launching the True Image Rescue Media from bootable CD-R? You didn't say that. Now I understand the connection to the optical drive.

A SATA optical drive won't generally be any faster than an IDE one, as the bottleneck is not the interface but the disk reading.

You should check to see if you have the latest firmware for that drive. If not flash with the latest.
Check Device Manager to see if the drive reports as working properly.

Thanks again, tuttle,

Sorry, I should've been clearer on the boot disc...

The optical drive is up to date and Device Manager does not report any problems, all seems ok. Still, the issue must have something to do with the drive because loading T.I. from the boot disc certainly was much quicker with the old drive.

Well, the next time I use T.I. I'll just go and make a cuppa whilst it loads ;)!

Thanks a lot, and take care,

Mauri.

Are you sure you have the latest firmware? Often even a newish drive, by the time it gets to you, has older firmware than is available for download from the manufacturer. As you say that your drive behaves erratically, I'd want at least to try with latest firmware. I flashed new firmware to my new drive, which corrected some issues.

Another option would be to run the Rescue Media from bootable USB flash drive. That's what I do, and it loads much faster than CD-R did.

Yes, the firmware is the latest. This is now somewhat off topic for this forum but, I run four internal SSDs in AHCI mode (not raid) and seem to recall reading something about AHCI mode causing issues in some SATA optical drives. That'd be my luck...;).

Anyway, your tip about using a USB drive is a good one. I haven't used one as a boot device but will now, thanks, 'hadn't thought of that.

Cheers,

Mauri.
