ATI2010 Home-XP PRO SP3-cannot backup to NAS drive

Thread needs solution

When running ATI Home 2010 build 5055 "rescue CD" with XP PRO, when I attempt to BACKUP to a Western Digital (WD) 1.5TBYTE NAS drive, I am asked to 'Mount' the NDAS drive. ATI asks me for
a 20 character 'unit ID'
and
a 5 character 'Write Key'.
I asked WD to supply me with these two entires?
WD replied as follows:
> "Unfortunately we do not have this information since we cannot support Acronis, the only Acronis software
> we can support is the WD version and we only supported for internal drives. Acronis is not supported on
> network drives, I suggest you contacting Acronis for support on this."

I see in forum messages, instructions/procedures to help set security and permissions for WIN7 and a NAS drive. Those instructions/permission settings do not seem to apply to WIN XP. Are there any NAS instructions for XP?

Am I correct in assuming I should be able to use ATI 2010 to backup my desktop to the WD NAS drive on my personal home 3 PC LAN? Also am I correct to assume I can use 2010 both from a "rescue CD" and when installed on the PC I am backing up?

Many thanks for any help. Dave_s

NAS or NDAS? Google seems to know nothing about "nas write key" neither about "wd ndas drive"

Used another search engine looking for "NDAS write key"
at
http://www.ixquick.com/do/metasearch.pl

Found that NDAS devices transmit "ID and WRITE/READ KEY" as broadcast packets on the network.
Need to find software which reads those packets and displays the needed ID and KEYS to satisfy what ACRONIS ATI Home 2010 is requesting to allow Mounting NDAS device.

Lots of NDAS info from this search engine.

Need the software that will capture the needed info from vendor NDAS device.

Are you still sure that the your WD device is nDas and can be mounted as NDAS using ID and KEY? I.e. it's not just NAS with some file-system level sharing?

You are probably right (NAS versus NDAS) device. I am not sure that I have a NDAS device now that you alert me. WD refers to it as a NAS device. ACRONIS software requests I mount my NDAS device.
WD refuses to discuss any further, sending me to ACRONIS.
If I have a NAS device, my question still needs an answer.
"Can my ATI Home 2009 or 2010 software, backup and restore NAS devices"?
I appreciate your alerting me!
Thank you.

Then it's no different than backup to network share. Is is present in the list of shares?

No! The NAS drive or any of its two folders NEVER appears in ATI list of drives to use for RESTORE or BACKUP.

It has been confirmed, my WD drive is a NAS device.

Just installed latest ATI 2010 build 6053 onto a Laptop.
Two NAS folders (/Public and /Download) appear as mapped drives on the Laptop when in XP.
Running installed ATI 2010 never shows either NAS folders when doing BACKUP or RESTORE.

Same happens, NAS drive or folders never appear, when I try BACKUP or RESTORE using the ATI 2010 6053 Rescue CD on same Laptop.

On a different PC, a desktop, using the build 6053 2010 Rescue CD or earlier 2010 Resuce CDs, the NAS drive or folders never appear.

How do I make ATI 2010 or 2009 map these NAS folders?

I've had the same exact "NO NAS SHARES" problem with both ATI 2009 and 2010.

Do not see any NETWORK options.

Hello all,

Thank you for posting, I will be happy to help. Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

David,
Try to specify the networked share using a full UNC path (e.g. \\server\share\) instead of a mapped drive or the IP adress (\\IP address\share\).
Please also check shared folder permissions to work with Acronis True Image.
