upgrade to 2014 from 2011 and PP

Thread needs solution

Hi! Quick question - I am tempted by the upgrade offer to Premium 2014. currently I am using 2011 True Image and PP. My HD disks are formatted with asz partitions. Will the upgrade be 'smooth' and maintain all my files or do I have to remake all backups from scratch? using Win 7 Pro 32 and 64 bit. Thanks jeff

I have not upgraded to 2014, so I don't know for certain. I can say that if it were me, I would uninstall my current ATI, run the Acronis True Image Cleanup Utility, reboot and then install the new version. It may not be totally necessary in most cases, but it will avoid problems on many systems. In such a process, backup tasks would have to be recreated. Your existing backup images could remain as is, as they will be restorable using ATI 2014.

Hi tuttle,

I've noticed you posted this same advice in several threads and feel compelled to ask you one or two questions, if I may:

I have now ATI 2013; if I decide to upgrade to 2014 Premium, what will be the risks of not following your recommendation? To this day, I never uninstalled any previous versions when upgrading to the next version and never encountered any problem. On the other hand, if I completely uninstall my previous version and run the Acronis True Image Cleanup Utility, how would the new software verify that I was a previous ATI user entitled to the special upgrade price? And finally, is it a requirement to have a previous version of the Acronis Plus Pack in order to be eligible for this ATI 2014 Premium?

Your advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

1. A portion of users have problems when installing over an existing installation. My method is more prudent, to avoid such issues.

2. When prompted, you would enter the old serial # and then the upgrade serial #. Simple.

3. I don't know how upgrade licencing will work for Premium. Acronis has not told us MVPs.

Great! So then I see no reason why I should not follow your advice for completely erase previous versions of Acronis.

As for the Premium licensing, I saw this same question asked somewhere else in these forums. Do you expect that Acronis will soon release that and other information and clarifications about this new release?

Thanks.

Installing with older versions in place was an issue Acronis especially tackled for vesion ati2013. It should work for almost every case. But no matter how I do it, I make a backup jsut before. ;)
From the ATI2014 manual

"Upgrading from old versions of True Image
If you already have True Image installed, the new version will simply update it; there is no need to remove the old version and reinstall the software.
Please keep in mind that the backups created by the later program version may be incompatible with the previous program versions. Therefore if you roll back Acronis True Image 2014 to an older version, you likely will have to re-create the backups using the older version. We strongly recommend that you create new bootable media after each product upgrade."
