Booting TI2014 Rescue USB on surface pro

Thread needs solution

What is the correct method for booting the TI 2014 Recovery USB on a surface pro?

I did the following:
- PC Settings / General / Advanced Starup and chose Restart Now.
- This gave me the option to boot to USB
- It started the boot to USB and then gave invalid signature

Has anyone booted to USB rescue media on a surface pro?
If so please post the process you used.

Note: I don't intend disabling secure boot or plugging in a USB portable CD/DVD drive (I don't have one)

A forum Search would find other threads discussing Surface Pro.

Saw that already. I am not trying to create a WINPE boot. Just a standard Recovery boot USB like the product glossies claim it can do.

Drew,
What type flash drive are you using to create the bootable usb stick with Acronis on it?
The type flash drive which works best is to avoid using SanDisk type due to its special partitions.

Check out this link and expand the view of item 1 at this link.
This is the Acronis KB article on how to create a bootable flash drive.
This is also applicable for 2013 and 2014 procedures.

Thanks for the info however the problem is not in creating the usb flash drive. No its not SANDisk. Its the same brand I used to create the Microsoft bootable recovery USB and that boots fine on the surface pro. This issue is once again secure boot which Acronis doesn't seem to get. In TI 2013 they fixed this with an extra ISO that was offered but that's only useful for creating a CD / DVD which I don't have. They never fixed the actual instqllation media. If they had I would never have bothered upgrading. I thought 2014 would have it fixed but considering support is delaying getting back to me, even though the ticket is high priority, I am assuming they have stuffed up yet again. I only persist with this horrid product as its easy for my parents to use

The issue I get is Secure Boot Violation. See Attachment

Booted with secure boot disabled and trueimage fires up. So looks like incorrect signature for secure boot environment yet again. Gee Acronis are you that useless

Also noticed when I did get in the type cover touchpad didn't work. The quick fix was unplug the acronis USB, plug in a USB mouse, move the mouse, unplug the mouse, plug the acronis usb back in. touchpad then works. Didn't test doing a restore as had enough by that stage of acronis incompetence.
Support still hasn't got back to me.

Drew, how did you manage to create a Recovery USB that works on a Surface Pro (even though you have to disable Secure Boot)?

With the help of Microsoft Support, I did resolve my issue.

But, for all other Acronis Users who will buy a Surface or a Surface Pro, or a Surface Pro 2, here is the STEP-BY-STEP procedure so that Acronis performs without problems (PLEASE INSERT THOSE INSTRUCTION INTO THE ACRONIS DATABASE):

1) Copy the Acronis Set-up file on the Surface computer
2) REMOVE the TOUCH or TYPE Keyboard (purchased with the Surface unit)
3) Using the DOCKING STATION (IF YOU PURCHASED ONE FOR YOUR Surface) or use an external USB HUB
4) Plug-into that HUB an external Mouse & Keyboard
5) Plug-into that HUB the USB key you want to set-up as an Acronis USB boot USB (Recovery)
6) Now, on the SURFACE or SURFACE PRO, Install ACRONIS
7) Shutdown
8) Restart HOLDING the VOLUME KEY UP
That will bring you into the UEFI menu
Disable the SECURE BOOT option
SAVE SETTINGS - SAVE SETTINGS AND EXIT
9) RESTART the SURFACE normally
10) Start ACRONIS
11) In TOOLS,create the Acronis Secure Zone and give it a confortable size (depending on the storage space you purchased)
12) Next, ACTIVATE, the F11 (Acronis Start UP Recovery Manager)
Note: For no. 11 and 12 above, if you did not disable the Secure Boot option in the UEFI, it will not work)
13) Reboot
14) Create your USB with Acronis Media Builder
15) Disconnect the External Keyboard, et re-install the Microsoft TOUCH or TYPE keyboard into your SURFACE

REMEMBER:

If you need to activate Acronis with the F11 key, REMOVE the Microsoft TOUCH or TYPE keyboard BEFORE pressing the F11 key and install an EXTERNAL mouse & keyboard.
If you need to use your Acronis USB recovery key, START your SURFACE holding the VOLUME key UP until you see the Acronis Boot menu and SELECT 1 (Acronis)
NOTE: You will need an EXTERNAL KEYBOARD and a HUB (or the DOCKING STATION) where you insert the Acronis USB key AND the external keyboard AND mouse.

I did all that on a SURFACE PRO 2 - 512 GB and everything works perfectly.
