Hello Stephan,

Thank you for that question an let me help you with it.

First of all, Acronis Migrate Easy 7.0 will not suit for this scenario: if to speak simply it is cloning one drive to another, thus you will have the Vista copied to the newer drive, overwriting Windows 7. We could try to backup and recover the data with the help of, for instance, Acronis True Image Home 2010 , which can backup not the entire operating system, but the data also, but this will not work, too. I'll try to explain right now why it is impossible to move the installed software from one OS to another.

Installation process is a complicated procedure, when not only the traces are added to the registry, but also the drivers assigned to the hard drive, etc... And even if we are able to back up the registry keys - they will refer to the Vista OS, and recovery of that traces may cause the mess in the registry of Windows 7 and crash the system. And still there will be the lack of the drivers assigned and the needed folders created in the right way in the right place. It is possible to move the data from one machine to another, but unfortunately not the software, so you will have to reinstall all the software you are running on Vista so that it could properly work on Windows 7.

I'm really sorry for the inconvenience. Let me know should something confuse you - I will clarify with pleasure.

Thank you.
