Come on Acronis - This is a horrible forum for Navigation, Posting, and Searching.

Thread needs solution

What's Is Up with this forum.  It has got to be the poorest excuse for a forum in terms of navigation, searching, posting, and responding.  You guys had a good thing going over at Wilders.  I could find just about anything I needed when Wilders was hosting your forum.

Acronis you are playing in the big leagues now why are fooling around with this second rate forum.  This is the primary first line contact with your customer base.

I have not even had one response to my question and it has been posted for over a week regarding incompatibilities with ABR 10 Advanced and Windows 7.

Had the forum been left at Wilders I would have had 4 or 5 responses generally within the first 24 hours.

Hell I cannot even find my own post because this forum does not even have a basic way for the poster to find his own forum post.

I have been a True Image Echo user for over 3 years and I have reccommended your software to all my clients.  But you guys are losing the grip on your market.

I gotta tell you I have moved over to StorageCrafts ShadowProtect for Imaging all my systems as well as my clients systems.  I have always liked your products but if this forum is the example of your push for better service for your customers I think the direction you guys are going then I just cannot go along for the ride.

Hi Brad,

Thank you for your feedback. We are doing our best to make these forums a nice place for our customers. Some do like them, others not; Wilders security forums are using the software stack specially designed to run discussion boards, this site is powered by a more general system called Drupal. Either approach has its advantages. Over time this forum would be at least as powerful and easy to use as the Wilders one.

Drupal is the modern site building system supporting all the web technologies needed to build up a successful site. It was a reasonable choice to build Knowledge base and then Forums on top of Drupal. Having these two sites together opens up a possibility of the cross content searching and many other opportunities we are looking to utilize in the future.

The response time of this Forum community will improve over time and our staff people will keep a close eye on the topics that are not answered yet and will definitely get to them, so you will receive the requested help.

In the mean time we have added a handy menu item for you to access your posts (My Forum topics) and also the posts you commented on (Commented Forum topics) with an instant sorting options and filtering options on its way to it.

We are sorry if the move to the new Forum site wasn't a good experience for you and are looking to get it performing better and better for our customers.

Andy,
The new basic additions to the forum accessories certainly help. I hope your success will keep you expanding the new features.

If would be nice if the two new additions could be further expanded so you could input another users name and search for all postings by or started by that individual.

Also, it would nice to have an input box where you could input a user name and send that user a private message without having to search for a posting by that individual.

Regarding the forum link at the top of this page which will take you back to the forum main page. I, for one, would like the button to include a drop down box where the user could select a direct link to the forum of their choice. For many of us, it an un-necessary loading of a page which is not used. Or, another alternative would be a new button which would have a listing of all forums for a user choice.

Something like either of these two samples might be nice for the top of the page for each forum as a useful navigation aid. It would have to be near the top so viewers using a screen resolutioon of 1080x768 or 800x600 would have the table all on one line.

This is just something that might be implemented easily and quickly until something better is arranged. The attached text file with code could be saved as an htm or html guide.

Also, how about adding htm and html as accepted file types when uploading.

Is this where I post this? Man, what a confusing mess. Anyhow, I tried to restore a backup to my system disk and got 'No configuration file present'.I'm screwed. Nothing worked. Then I saw where Acronis can send me a magic ISO image that I can put on a disc and it will magically boot. How do I get this ISO? Why isn't it readily available for download somewhere? I have been using ti for years, but this is NUTS! Vista X64 SATA drive.

Joe Soup, not sure why you thought a 'Not product related' headed forum with a sub topic 'Forum Administrations' was the correct place to post a problem with True Image or ABR10 rather than the True Image forum, or the confusingly titled Acronis Backup and Recovery forum.

A repost in the TI forum will hopefully get you more answers than here.

Anyway..... What version of TI, Echo or ABR10 and build are you using?

Are you trying to recover from within Windows or from the Rescue CD?

Have you registered your serial number with Acronis in your account as there are extra downloads there.

More information about your system would be useful - such as chipset, brand of PC (if applicable).

I've just realised what your problem probably is - a better explanation would have saved me using up more than my fair share of excess neurons.

I take it you have actually managed to restore an image to your hard drive, and now, that recovered image won't boot into Windows.

This is probably because the BCD database can't find the boot files. If your original Vista install was a clean one and not an upgrade, and the Vista installer formatted the drive, you will be using the new 2048 sector offset (created by Microsoft) rather than the traditional 64 byte offset. TI older than 2010 will not quite understand this new setup.

Do you have a Vista install DVD?

Hi,
I have been using your software now for a few years BUT only to backup my complete drive.

The first time I tried to do a restore after a major crash I get the message that "The selected file is not an Acronis True Image Home archive."

Why not?? It was created by Acronis True image 11 Home.

I have a Vista OS and I tried to install VISTA service pack SP1. This installation crashed my PC to the point that the original Vista installation disk would not boot up. So I said, no worries, I'll restore my system by using my backup copy created by TI 11.

IT DID NOT WORK.

What do I need to do to get your software to recognise its own backups??

Antonosky:

Are using TI 11 to attempt the rstore or a newer versio?

I am using TI 11.

Just to add the full story. I have TI 10 disk and I upgraded to TI 11 by purchasing a downloadable upgrade copy. Now, the backups on my VISTA machine were done using TI 11, but since my VISTA crashed upon installing SP1. I cannot boot up with a TI 11 disk (because I do not have one). What I am trying to do is to use the older TI 10 to launch the Acronis TI 10 programme and then I select the backup folder which was created using TI 11.

So, when I boot up with TI 10 can the files created with TI 11 be recognised by TI 10?

Maybe that is where the problem lies. Should I be making a bootable copy of my installed TI 11 and then use this disk to boot up my crashed VISTA machine?

Looking forward to your reply.

Antonosky

Hi,

After posting the last post I realised that I could and should make a rescue disk of my TI 11. This I did and used it to boot up my crashed VISTA machine. Having done this the previously unreadable backup files were now recognised. I am now in the process of restoring my drive c:\. So far it is looking good and I may get my machine back. Will let you know what happens, but it will take a long time seeing as I have selected to verify the restoration.

Antonosky

Just for information, TI 11 (later versions) used a different file structure to TI 10.

Hi,

Success.

Having made a bootable TI 11 rescue disk, I used this to restore my latest backup of the entire C: drive to the point before I tried to install VISTA SP1. All files were successfully restored and my system is now working.

Thankfully, Acronis TI 11 saved me a lot of heart aches.

I don't think I'll bother trying to install SP1 again.
