RE-installing Acronis True Image 2014 Premium

Thread needs solution

Windows Explorer may have been used to delete backup files (unsure). The User Guide - section 3.12 says this is a no-no and will cause subsequent errors as Windows will not delete reference to these files in the database. This is the situation that I appear to be experiencing now - thus the uncertainty.

Is an uninstall then reinstall of the software the only remaining option? If this is done, can the original serial number be used to activate the product without having to re-purchase the software?

My Thanks.

Yes, you may reinstall and reuse the serial #. No, you likely don't need to. You can simply delete ATI's .xml database, which I believe is in its Programs folder.

Do a search for
archives.xml
This is usually found inside a folder labelled "Database"
For A Win 7 system, often found in
programdata/acronis/trueImagehome/database

nand ram,
Did you try using the Win 8 search feature for
ARCHIVES.XML

You may have set your Folder options to display system files.

Grover I have a continuing problem in trying to clone my 500GB HDD to a new 2.0TB HDD. All seems to be going just fine either in the automatic or manual mode. I get a message on the screen that if I do not reboot within certain time limits, the process will stop. Well, when I click on reboot now, it seems that all is working and the computer shits down. The screen goes dark with only the power indicator on the frame indicating it is still powered up and the power indicator on the DeskTop shows it is powered up. There is nothing shown going on with the processor or the HDD light on the Tower. One session lasted 16 hours before I decided there was a problem. The troubleshooting guide always calls for the error code but when this occurs, there is no error message present. What am I to do. I purchased this program two days ago (10-16-2013)and have fought it for more than I can stand. I need help most urgently. I need to move the data from the old drive to the new one since I have requirements for more disk space. Thanks for any help. sgb, hsv, al, usa

Clone should be used only by advanced users who know what they are doing. It is riskier and can result in a loss of data and a failed system. Create a full disk mode backup and restore it, using the bootable Rescue Media, to the new disk, as it's far safer.

I have a similar problem to Jesse. Rather than delete the entire archives.xml file, I'd like to edit it so I don't lose data on the 1 manual disk image that I want to keep intact as it is working fine. Is it possible to edit the archives.xml file to do this?

ATI should rebuild the index. If the one you are looking for is not listed, instruct ATI do do a search (cannot remember how to do that off the top of my head). I have needed to do this in the past and it worked.

Candy,
I would rename the archives.xml to old-archives.xml so you can reverse if necessary. Editing (notepad) is possible but impossible to know what to change insde the file . Your other backup file will remain in its storage folder for recovery any time needed.

Start a new task pointing to a new empty storage folder so you have a fresh start.
Link 2 below could be of asistance. Illustrations 11-Inc; or 11-Dif; or 11-full; could be of assistance in determining the preferred backup scheme.

Stanley,
You should be performing your procedure withn booted from the TrueImage Recovery CD.
Which version of Windows?
Have you checked any of the 2014 help or webhep listed along the left margin.
Also available is Grovers Guides listed along the left margin and signature link 3, item 1 and 2 if restoring a disk mode backup.
