ATI 2014 (trial mode) + Acronis Cloud + backing up NAS

Thread needs solution

Hello,

Sorry if this question has already been posted here, but I have trouble backing up my NAS (file back-up).
I can browse the files. If I select the files and do a back-up it takes an awful lot of time to back-up 80GB of pictures.
But ones in the cloud, I can only see the first folder and that's it.
Same happens with shared folder that's mapped from a PC.

Question, does ATI 2014 support backing up network drives to the cloud?
I recently discontinued my server PC, which had the cloud client installed, no problems there.
Do I need to find another product or service to back-up my NAS files?

Thanks!

ATI doesn't support backing files from network locations. You will need Backup and Recovery for that.

Thanks, but that's out of my budget.
They should not make it possible to select a network drive as a source if it's not supported.
I guess I need to sync up and down to a local disc and use the online backup client, bummer.

Thanks again.

RvdB,

What Brand and model NAS are you using? Some Synology models have a problem with True Image.

How are you accessing the NAS, via a mapped drive or UNC/IP? True Image prefers UNC/IP or FTP addressing.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for your response, sorry for my late answer!
Yes, I read about the trouble that some Synologgy NAS devices have with ATI.
I have a DS213+, latest DSM version. I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

I'm accessing the NAS via the ATI built-in browser that pops-up. It detects the NAS. I need to enter credentials first before I can browse my files and folders.
There is 1 error in the log, that it can't make a snapshot. But I guess that's no problem as it can not make a snapshot of the NAS.

Regards!

Does that mean you are able to make images to the NAS, you just can't browse them?

Do you get the snapshot error if you have a locally attached drive as well?

I'm trying to backup my NAS.
I'm not trying to backup to my NAS. But backing up to my NAS works just fine.
I get no snapshot error while backing up a local drive, either to another local drive or to my NAS.

I updated Synology's DSM to the latest version yesterday. I tried a 300MB backup and it didn't work.
I tried again today, backing up a couple of GB, and it worked. This just freaks me out.
I'll do some more testing and report back.

Thanks!

Hello Everyone,

Mapped Drives and Network Shares were not supported in previous versions of Acronis True Image.

But in the current version we removed this limitation and it should work properly, though there are some known issues.  However, all problems seem to be individual.

RvdB, if you face any difficulties please send me a step by step description or contact our support team.

Thank you.

Hello Anna,

Thanks for your reply.
I'm already in contact with the support team. Elena is helping me.
Latest update is that ATI isn't backing up any sub folder of a share if only that sub folder is selected.
If I select the share, the main folder, backup seems to work perfectly.
I report back here with the final conclusion.

Regards!

I have read numerous post regarding TI's issue with NAS devices. I have a WD Sentinel DX4000 NAS Device with current firmware and running Windows 2008 R2, static IP . I can use TI2014(trial version) to do a full image of my desktop unit to my NAS, but when I boot to the boot image I created and try to do a restore there is nothing listed under NAS connections. I truly understand everyones frustrations, I guess I am just lucky I tried it first before purchasing it. I did leave an email with tech support and am waiting an answer. I don't want to load other software to make their software function I.E. Bonjour???

Bob

Hello,

I just got a reply from the Acronis support team.
They reproduced my issue and unfortunately the problem can not be solved in the 2014 version.
I rewrote my backup procedure and hope it'll be fixed in a newer version.

As for the support, they are doing a great job in reporting back in a timely manner.

Regards!

Hello RvdB,

thank you for your feedback!

I'll forward it to Elena, Vyacheslav and our management.

Have a nice day!
