Cannot Mount Image

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I've been trialling True Image home 2010 and True Image Workstation.

I'm annoyed that I cannot mount the backup image. I've validated the image and uninstalled every USB drive, and every other thing I can think of. But my computer just sits there and hangs after a while.

This is on Windows XP, so I installed True Image on a Win 7 VM I have and tried to mount the image file from there. At least Win 7 was nice enough not to crash but instead gave an error message that said "Cannot assign a drive letter to a partition from the backup archive", mind you the little dialog box saying "assigning letters to partitions" stayed there for a good minute.

I even tried to mount it in True Image Workstation and that hang my computer in XP too.

The archive is a full disk, and there is only one partition, I've checked and re-checked that Im assigning a drive letter that is available.

I've also done a test-restore from the image, by restoring about 6 GB from one directory and that worked fine.

However, being able to browse the image I consider is mandatory.

I also ran the AcronisInfo.exe file, by my computer just seems to spin forever when it gets to the msinfo32.exe part.

help appreciated, otherwise, I'm going to Ghost.

Instead of Mounting, treat the .tib file like a folder in Windows Explorer. Double click to open it and drill down to the folder or file you want to find.

DwnNDrty: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I just installed Windows 7 and TI2010 and got the error message that it couldn't assign a drive letter for mounting the backup.

Your suggestion was most welcome.

Check in Windows task Manager\Processes that you have an entry for TimounterMonitor.exe

In XP I think (I'll have to check) it also appears as a service in Services.msc.

In W7 check that Timounter is running under processes and that also the W7 virtual disk service and loader are running. Note the last two are a Microsoft service and should be running by default.
