XP Window Freezes on Boot after install of Drivers

Thread needs solution

I am upgrading to the current version of ATI. The new version did not install right and crashed my XP system boot. I contacted Acronis and they had me to reinstall a prior disk image and get the old version off my system with a software removal tool, and the new version loaded. The ATI software works now. But, I have another problem. One of the the things that I did was to install new drivers Snap API Drivers for the software. After installing the snap API drivers, my computer, after doing a "cold boot" stops loading at anytime during or after the XP window loads. This always happens before the welcome screen. This does not happen any other time I boot, other than the first time (i.e. cold boot). I ran "fixmbr" and "fixboot" from the repair console off of the XP CD. Should I remove and or reinstall the API drivers? I have also recontacted the Acronis, but they are real slow in getting back to me. I am running XP, SP2 all updates, and no other problems. Also, no software malware infection.

Thanks for any and all help in advance,

I ran into this issue when allowing the installer to upgrade ATI to the latest version. I got a popup with an error message saying something like "file is in use", but otherwise the install completed and said that it was successful. And then upon reboot I found that XP went into a continuous reboot loop due to a BSOD just before when the Welcome screen should have appeared. I figured out that the safest method of upgrading ATI is to uninstall the previous version, reboot, and then run the installer for the most recent ATI version. If the installer produces any sort of popup error message, then either immediately rerun the installer after the installation completes, or rerun the installer and uninstall the product. No matter what, don't reboot the computer until either you have uninstalled ATI or have rerun the installer successfully without getting any type of popup error message.

Hello Charlesn56,

I have read your message and am confident I will be able to assist you with your issue.

I may recommend you to update SnapAPI drivers to the latest version to get rid of the issue. Please download SnapAPI driver build 503, unpack and install it with Disabled logging.

This update should fix the issue.

Thank you.
