Upgrade from WD Edition to 2014?

Thread needs solution

After searching for hours in this and the Western Digital's site I still can't tell if the Acronis True Image WD Edition, that is currently based on the 2013 version, can be upgraded (with the "upgrade" price) to the full 2014 version.

The closest thing to an answer I've found is this page: http://kb.acronis.com/content/3699 where it's said that "Acronis True Image OEM", apparently of any version and kind, qualifies for the upgrade to any 2014 product.

At other places I read that the WD edition ought to fall under this "Acronis True Image OEM" category, but I know there are also proper OEM versions, installed on new PCs by the manufacturers, so I'm not entirely sure.

It seems that those with a serial number can check the upgradeability by registering the product, but the WD edition does not expose a serial number, from what I read you have to keep it installed when you upgrade to the full 2013 version.

And, as an aside, should I really want to upgrade to 2014? There are some scary reports in this forum..

Yes, the WD must be installed in order to upgrade to 2014. This requrement would also be required if you wanted to install 2014 fresh in the future at some point.

Thank you GroverH, I sent her a message last week but she hasn't replied me yet.

In your message though you say "the WD must be installed in order to upgrade to 2014" , does that mean that you actually already know that I ought to be able to do the upgrade to the 2014 version (and maybe I only need some additional detail from Anna) or you meant "if it turns out it is possible to do the upgrade then you'll have to install the 2014 over an already installed WD version" (which I already guessed)?

Hello gba,

sorry for the delay with answer to your private message.

Grover is right; you will need to install Acronis True Image 2014 over your current version of Acronis True Image WD Edition, so that program after entering of upgrade key won't ask for a serial m\number of a previous version. For the details please refer to the following article (it's also valid for 2014 version and will be updated soon).

Thank you.
