Unable to restore
Hi;
I am currently evaluated Acronis True Image 2014 on a Windows 7 64 bit laptop. My backup location is an Ubuntu 12.04 server with Samba installed.
I have been able to create an initial backup and a second incremental backup after this. However I am unable to restore with the message:
"Failed to open backup \\........tib. Make sure the backup location is accessible and contains all versions of the backup. This backup may also be corrupted."
I am able to browse the network via Windows Explorer and can see the backup files. Any ideas what is causing this issue?
Thanks
Thomas

It should also be possible to use a UNC path that includes server name rather than IP, such as
\\server1\My Backups\
[/quote]
Thanks for the feedback, but this is how I defined the network share \\myserver\backup
When browsing for the backup location, I am able to see the backup without any issues. Then when I select the file I am getting an error message as well.
Just running another backup now and interestingly enough, instead of the incremental backup that it did last time it does a full backup. So I assume (not sure if this is correct) that ATI thinks that the original backup became corrupted?
Anyway the backup works without any issues locating the network share, so you would assume the same should happen with the restore?

I am having the same problem
the backup location has been defined as \\[ip address of server]\Name\Acronis
it asked for credentials and I provided them, tested fine
the initial backup runs fine, and I can run incremental fine again right after
the backup files are created fine and I can browse them in windows
if I close ATI, and re-open it, it fails to access the backup location, can't recover files, can't run a new backup
I get the following log entries after I force stop the operation:
Failed to prepare data stream. Check whether the source and target partitions exist.
More information about this error and solutions may be available online in the Acronis Knowledge Base.
To access the online resource manually, enter the event code at: http://kb.acronis.com/errorcode/
Event code: 0x000B03E9+0x0004000F+0x00040007+0x0000FFF0+0x80070003
I can still see the original backup file in windows explorer, the network access is otherwise fine
help??

Hi Paul,
If you go to backup settings, destination, and reenter the credentials when you restart ATI, can you then restore and continue the backup?

No I tried that a few times. Tried providing the admin login credentials also but not luck

I believe I have resolved it now.
The backup routine failed after I changed the name of the backup to something more descriptive. Apparently this wrecks the NAS access somehow.
After I deleted the whole thing and set it up again fresh (and included the descriptive name when first setting it up) it seems to work fine now. It ran automatically last night after I shut down the program.
If this is correct, then there should be some kind of warning or block from making changes to the settings that would cause the backup to fail after it's been created!

Paul,
You are correct. The edit or change of a backup task can cause the program to fail or to not function as expected. In all my postings and guides, I try to discourage any edits or changes to an existing backup task. Under most circumstance, the edited task will have to be replaced anyway because of the results not as expected and the edits just delays the recreation of a new task.
As you have stated, the program has no restriction on editing and also leaves the user to assume the edit will take. Sometimes they do (eventually) but sometimes they do not. When assigning the name to the backup file, it can only be assigned on one specifific screen and that screen is illustrated in link 2 below, illustration #8 with access via #7 browse optoon.
