can't clone my C drive

Thread needs solution

I've just tried to clone my C drive to another identical sata drive of the same size. I'm using True Image Home 2009 on XP pro SP2.

The process seemed to start OK but at the point just after re-booting, there were a couple of 'analysing partitions 100%' followed by

ERROR: UNABLE TO READ PARTITION C: (RETRY, IGNORE IGNORE ALL)

I've done clones on this PC as a mode of backup, but this is the first time I've had this error.

Any ideas would be most welcome.

Hello Keith,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

First of all I would recommend you to check both disks for errors. Please do the following:

- Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)

- Enter the command: "chkdsk DISK: /r" (where DISK is the partition letter you need to check) for every partition that is visible in My Computer. Please note, that checking the C: drive may require you to reboot the machine.

If the issue persists create Acronis bootable disc and use it to clone the drive.

Hi Dmitry,

Thanks for that, ran 'chkdsk' and was surprised to see how many sectors it had to fix.

Once that was done, Cloning was no problem.

I'll make a bootable disc for future as you advised.

Thanks, again.

Keith

Hi,
I cannot clone my C drive either. I keep getting

Failed to prepare operations. Error code: 9 'A file system error has been found.'with extended code: 458,780 'Run list is corrupted.'

Any ideas?

Did you run the chkdsk command as outlined above?

I can not clone my C: Drive to a Sata that is much larger. After I select the Source it then processes and when I am supposed to select the destination all drives are grayed out. I am trying out this program to see if it will do what Leo La Port says. Please advise
