"You don't currently have permission to access to this folder"

Thread needs solution

Using Acronis TI 2014 here under Windows 8.1. I have recently upgraded from Windows XP home and from ATIH 2013.

I'm finding that I cannot mount and browse to retrieve some files from my old system (XP with 2013) that were backed up using full disk backup. It says, "You don't currently have permission to access to this folder" and says that I can click continue to permanently get access. When I do so, it triggers UAC, then says I've been denied access, but that I can use the "security tab." I'm not sure that's going to work on a mounted TIB image, though. I'm not entirely sure how permissions work in Windows 8, anyway.

What can I do to regain control of these directories so I can get my own files?

One thing I've thought about doing was to mount the image, then back the image up as a file backup using 2014 and pretending it's a hard drive and uncheck the "File level security settings" option under the Advanced tab that appears on the File Backup Options. Is it even possible to do a file backup of a mounted TIB?

If you mounted the image in read/write mode, after unmount new incremental backup will be created, which will contain the changes you made in the image - including changed permissions.

Well, this is what I did: I successfully mounted the image and made a File backup, and turned off File Level Security. I can then browse for the files I wanted.
