ATIH 2014 Backup Not Deleted

Thread needs solution

I have been using ATIH with Windows 7 and now Win8 and 8.1 and never have had old version chains deleted. I am setup as: Incremental; Create full version after 5 incremental backups; Store no more than 10 version chains; Auto clean up.

I have used "Delete version chains older than 7 days" and still the backups will fill a backup HDD. It has never worked to limit the consumed space by deleted old backups.

Help please. Thank you in advance!

Doug,
Perhaps there is a misinterpretation of how these functions actually work.
for example, if scheme is full after 5 inc and keep 10 chains. then
each chain is 6 files and keep 10 chains so any deletion would not begin until after backup b11 which would be backup # 61 or the 11 full,

If set to ful after 5 inc, delete after 7 days,.
then the delete would not begin until the 5th inc was older than 7 days.

---------------

A reduction in the number of chains to be kept would cause a earlier deletion.

Note: any edit of the backup task or change of configuration of the backup task would also cause the task to take long to effect the changes made. My rules that I recommend is that changes need, stop using the old task and s tart a new task and always point the new task to a new and empty storage folder or no mixing of backup files from multiple tasks.

As I do not know how many chains you have, it is difficult for me to suggest but most likely the best option would be to stop using the old chain and start a new chain with new settings.

Ah Ha! The light is much brighter now and the semantics are in focus. I will implement a new backup per your great directions and many thanks GroverH.
