Cannot Select Source Disk to Cone

Thread needs solution

When I try to select my source disk it is grayed out and I can't access it.
My source disk is 1.17 TB RAID-0 but it only has 426GB of data on it.
The new disk is 1 TB.
Why is the source disk grayed out?
Thanks for reading.

No information provided about which Windows and which TrueImage.

You might try

Note: 1tb should be inside the computer with the 1.17 elsewhere such as an adapter or enclosure.

1. Boot from the user created TIRecovey CD (or flash drive).
2. Under TI Tools menu, select the add new disk option.
3. Select the new 1 tb and initialize either to mbr or GPT (match same as 1.17 type)
4. Complete the initialization and the new disk will have no partitions and all to be unallocated.
5. Repeat the clone attempt still booted from the CD.

Sorry about that.

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Acronis True Image Home 2012 Plus Pack Recovery Disk.
I will now try your suggestions and report back my results

Thanks again,

GroverH:
It did not work.

I ran checkdisk after I got the error message and I got no errors.
When I tried to clone again I got the same error message.

My source hard drive has a small partition in front of the main partition.

Could that be part of my problem

Your source disk is dynamic. True Image does not support cloning dynamic disks even with the plus pack. You'll have to perform a backup and then restore it to the new disk.

Limitations on dynamic disks and GPT disks support in Acronis True Image Home Plus Pack:
◦RAID-1 (Mirrored) and RAID-5 volumes are not supported. See also Acronis True Image Home: RAID Support;
◦Creation of Acronis Secure Zone is not supported;
◦Recovery of a dynamic volume as a dynamic volume with manual resizing is not supported;
◦GPT disks can be recovered only "volume-to-volume" without the possibility of resizing;
◦Try&Decide cannot be used for protecting dynamic and GPT disks;
◦Clone disk operation is not supported for dynamic and GPT disks.

Thank you, Joey , for your post.
I will start to backup my drive now.
(Could take a really long time because I have to save to a "computer near me".)
I will post my results when I am done.
Question: Could I have changed my source disk to basic and then tried cloning it again?

It isn't easy to go back to basic after its been changed to dynamic. Without third party tools, all partitions must be deleted from the disk to convert it back to basic.

http://www.partition-tool.com/resource/change-dynamic-disk-to-basic.htm

I've seen good reviews for the software in the link above to change from dynamic to basic. The free version includes that functionality, but during the conversion there is always a risk of data loss. So I still recommend performing a full disk mode backup before trying to convert the disk. If something were to go wrong during the conversion, the time it took to perform the backup would have been well spent.

I believe after performing your disk backup (make sure you include that little system reserved partition), you can choose to restore it as basic on the new disk using Acronis. Restore the System reserved partition first as primary and active, and then restore the OS partition as primary.

This link has information about the recovery of dynamic disks.

Good luck.

I finally got my windows 7 to the new disk but now when I start it It says it is arranging my desktop and after several minutes a message on the bottom right of my screen says "this copy of windows 7 is not genuine" "Build7600" and it never gets any further than that.
Any ideas, anyone? Thanks!
