Good morning,
I am using TI 11 (build8107) on an xpSP3 machine. I had no problem saving or restauring files. But since a friend of mine reported to me problems with the validation option, I started to check every backup. Almost every file is reported as corrupted, but I still can open and use the *.tib files.
I even reformatted the hard disk used for the backup : still the message corrupted file.
Backing up without compression "seems" to give less error messages.
Any idea about this beheaviour ?
Can programs running in background (antivirus, etc ) have an impact on TI ?
thanks for your support

Hello p rolland,
Thank you for using Acronis Products
The possible source of the issue can be corrupted RAM module. See the following KB article for step-by-step troubleshooting for corrupted backup archives.

Hello,
I had some time and did the following :
1- memory test : ok, no problem found
2- backup using the stand alone cd : the back up is done on a large second physical disk disk. validation : ok, validation with TI under windows ok.
3- backup on my usb disk , with reduced write speed : same problem with the validation
4-backup with TI underwindows on the internal (IDE) disk , same as for the test 2 : validation ok
I checked the error messages and it it always the same : see attached picture.

Hello p rolland,
Thank you for your response.
Could you please check the source partition for file system errors?
- Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)
- Enter the command: "chkdsk DISK: /r"
where DISK is the partition letter you need to check. Please note, that checking the C: drive may require you to reboot the machine.
If this doesn't help, please clarify the following:
backup on my usb disk , with reduced write speed : same problem with the validatio
Do you experience the same results under Windows and under Acronis CD?
Also please perform the below calculations:
- Select one of the archives placed to the internal HD and verified OK (the size should be not less than several GBs).
- Download a free checksum utility from http://www.irnis.net/files/xcsci.exe
- Unpack and run the application. Browse and select the installation package you have downloaded;
- Click the "Start" button;
- Obtain the MD5 value of the archive;
- Copy the archive to the external hard drive, obtain the MD5 value again;
- Compare the values and let us know the results.
Thank you.

Oleg,
Thank you for your support, here is the status :
1 - backup/validate with the TI CD , using an internal IDE disk : ok
2 - backup/validate on a second usb disk : ok
3 - my other usb disk used for backups has 3 partitions :
- on partition 1 : backup corrupted
- on partition 2 : ok
4 - I ran the volume checking tool available under property/tools for a given disk , I did not check if Windows logs a report somewere. It is probably equivalent to the chkdsk command, it took about 2 hours to run, I ran TI after the check : no problem with the validation. I did it several times : no problem.
If the problem occurs again, I will use the mdsum checking tool you indicated.
many thanks
Pierre Rolland
