Are you surprised?  Seems that there may have been a rush to market with the latest True Image release because it appears to be fraught with all kinds of problems.

I tried updating from 2009 to 2010 and at first received what appears to becoming the infamous timounterMonitor error.  Upon following the support recommendation on a thread for this issue t o remove prior installation of 2009, run their cleanup program, and install from scratch, I now find myself getting this error whenever I attempt to launch the program with the program never opening after this error is reported.

Given the unresponsiveness of suppor to address your issue, I'm almost afraid to ask for help with mine too.

terry jennings,

If you're using the Echo version, have you tried the latest build? (I'm assuming the Enterprise Virtual Edition version has the same builds as the Workstation version. The latest being build 8,353.)

same problem how do I fix the problem

Hello all,

Thank you for using Acronis Corporate Products

The issue you are experiencing is caused by the SnapAPI module that has failed to be updated. The traces of the previous SnapAPI build prevents this module from the proper functionality.

We should uninstall the SnapAPI module manually.

1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features (Add or remove programs);

2. Check if there is the SnapAPI entry in the list of installed programs. If there is the SnapAPI entry, click on it and choose Uninstall.

3. Open Start -> Run -> regedit;

4. Delete the snapman and snapman380 registry values (if present) from:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} -> UpperFilters

(!) Do not delete any other values.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} -> UpperFilters

(!) Do not delete any other values.

 5 . Reboot the machine;

6. Delete the following registry keys if present:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\snapman
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\snapman380

7. Rename the snapapi.dll to snapapi1.dll in the following folder:

Windows Server 2008 32 bit: \Windows\system32\
Windows Server 2008 64 bit: \Windows\syswow64\

Windows XP: C:\WINDOWS\system32

8. Download the Windows CleanUp utility from here, install and run it, select the Acronis program and hit Remove;

9. Reboot the computer.

10. Install the latest build of the program.

The issue should be solved.

Instead of using the Windows Cleanup utility (points 8,9,10) you can install the appropriate SnapAPI module separately. The respective SnapAPI files are available in this article. Please note that the SnapAPI file for every build and version can be different, it is very important to apply the necessary build of the SnapAPI file.

This article doesn't contain the file for Acronis True Image Home 2010 and Acronis Backup & Recovery 10.0, I can send them via PMs if necessary.

Thank you.

I have the problem discussed, I have completed steps up to 7. I am trying to use True Image Home 10 on a new computer running Windows 7. Do I have to do this step 7. Rename the snapapi.dll to snapapi1.dll in the following folder:
Windows Server 2008 32 bit: \Windows\system32\
Windows Server 2008 64 bit: \Windows\syswow64\
If so, how do I find these files? Also, since I have TI 10, I would need the file for Acronis True Image Home 2010 and Acronis Backup & Recovery 10.0 per your satement. Can you send them via PMs if necessary. Since I have downloaded the latest build, does it need to be reinstalled after the above changes? Oleg Lee may need to address this..........

Chuck,
Contact Acronis support via either live chat or send them a private message pointing to your post #6 on this link.

A private message link to support is on post #5. It is the little icon under headers Posts:993

Hello Chuck,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.

You can find the appropriate file in the following way:

Go to C:\Windows\system32\, hit CTRL + F and type snapapi.dll in the Search box.

If you use Acronis True Image Home 2010, you don't need the file for Acronis Backup & Recovery 10, you need the file for Acronis True Image Home 2010 only. Our Knowledge Base has been updated, the respective file for Acronis True Image Home 2010 is available in this article (SnapAPI build 503).

If you follow the guide from the step 1 to 7, you can install the SnapAPI file separately without reinstalling the entire program. If you use the CleanUp utility, you should install the latest build from the scratch.

The main idea is to remove all traces of the SnapAPI module of the previous installation that fails to be updated. This will help to install the latest version of this module properly.

Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawless for you. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

I did everything that I was instructed to do (including the install of API build 503), and I still have the same problem. I did notice that VolSnap was not in{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} -> UpperFilters, and I didn't delete it. Everything else appeared as in the steps listed. Does Acronis really have a fix for this problem or is TI2010 incompatible with Windows 7? I am starting to have doubts about it! Since I'm unable to talk to a live person, this step by step troubleshooting is getting ridiculous! This problem should be escalated to a higher level of Support.............

Hello George,

Thank you for your response.

Certainly, we can escalate the issue to a higher level support, but you should create a case via Live chat or web form. Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.

Thank you.

I have been on chats with 4 different agents and followed all their instructions. I had them read the chat logs, forum posts, etc. Also, sent web form to support, an email to Managers, been on several forums and I still cannot open Acronis True Image 2010 on Windows 7. My problem is slightly different then the original post on this Forum: I uninstall the appl. then reinstall the latest build and when I try to open TI 2010, I get this message in a window:
Tag = 0x8D5BF87C202E86DC
The system cannot find the file specified (0xFFF0)
code = 80070002)
Tag = 0xBD28FDBD64EDB8B9
None of the fixes I have been given work, please can someone give me some meaningful help? I have used True Image for a number of years, but I'm reaching the point where I am getting ready to give up! Someone must know how to solve this problem. Mic rosoft 3rd tier support has told me that this is definitely an Acronis issue. Thanks.

 Hello Tracey,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.

The encountered issue is caused by traces of the previous installation, i.e. the current build failed to be updated properly. To resolve the issue please remove the program using the appropriate Cleanup tool:

After that reboot the computer and install the program from the scratch.

By the way, we were able to resolve the issue reported by George, the appropriate Cleanup tool was helpful in this matter.

Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawlessly. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

Why should I do all that? I don't have time. I paid for this program, why can't the people making this do a decent job in the first place so we don't have these problems, and, if we do have problems like this, someone over there should MAKE A FIX that we can download and run.

I have 2 copies of this, on 2 computers, and neither one works, sick of this crap.

The first version I bought, I think 11, might have been 10, worked great, every version since then sucks.

I used to recommend this to my customers, not any more.

And this forum sucks too, I have to do a CAPTCHA even when I edit a post? really

Hello Bryan,

as far as I understand you are using Acronis True Image home products. Thus, Oleg's comment doesn't apply.

Can you please clarify which product version you are using exactly and provide more information on the problem you've faced?

Thank you,

The reason I'm here is because after searching Google forever, this is the only thing I found even close to my problem. This has been going on for a while, I eneded up using a diffent program on a different computer for my disc cloning.

I just started the program to see the error and it informed me there was an update, so I installed it. After it was done, I clicked "clone disk" and the error is still there:
failed to open (initialize) the computer.

Failed to initialize the snapshot manger library. (0x100005)
tag = 0x8D5BF87C202E8756
unknown status. (0x9)
code = 57)
tag = 0x2AACB7B2AB852AC
the parameter is incorrect (0xFFF0)
code = 80070057
tag = 0xBD28FDBD64EDB8C3

I typed that, there might be a mistake, but there was "more info" and I was able to copy it:

More information about this error and solutions may be available online in the Acronis Knowledge Base. To access the online resource manually, enter the event code at: http://kb.acronis.com/errorcode/
Event code: 0x000101F4+0x00100005+0x00000009+0x00000057+0x0000FFF0+0x80070057

If I click on "Backup and recovery" the "Source" section is empty, nothing there, so I can't do a disc backup.

Anyway,
The computer is running Windows 7 64 bit
I'm now running True Image 2014
build 6673
sync agent version: 12,0,0,1877

But that doesn't matter, this started when I installed it, not sure what version it was but I was never able to use the program.

This looks like the same problem I had on another computer, but I went with Paragon backup, that works flawless.

Hi Bryan,

do you use any other backup solutions on the same machine? Can you please temporarily remove it, disable your antivirus software and run a repair installation?

SnapAPI works on the low level and might have conflicts with other low-level drivers. That is why we don't recommend using multiple backup solutions on one machine. Also please make sure that you run installation with administrator privileges.

Thank you,

Thanks for the reply.

This is a new install of Windows 7, no antivirus, nothing installed other than firefox. I made this computer just to use acronis on it, it's specifically for cloning and backups of HDD's & SSD's.

I've given up on if for now, I have another system with Paragon backup on it and have had no problems.

I stopped recommending acronis true image to my customers as I've seen others having problems with it.
