Recovery software locks up on Proliant ML370

Thread needs solution

This weekend I had to do a restore with version 9 on an older HP Proliant ML370 server. The server doesn't use RAID, it has two SCSI drives in a C: and D: configuration. The image I used was located on a USB hard drive. I connected the USB drive, booted into the recovery environment, and selected the image to restore. All went well until I selected the drive to restore to, which was C:, and at that time the recovery software locked up. I repeated the process to make sure, with the same result. Since Windows still functioned on the server, I booted it up normally and copied the identical image over the network to the D: drive. I rebooted into the recovery disc and did a restore from D: and it went smoothly. What is the deal with restoring the ML370 with a USB drive? The ML370 is older and only USB 1 compliant, while the drive is USB 2, but that should only make the transfer speed drop to USB 1 rate if it were to actually do the retore. Any help is appreciated. Michael

I already restored a full backup using the recovery CD on a ml370 (mine was using a smart array card).

I noticed that when using USB1, recovery of a partition / disk may be really slow and seems to hang because acronis do something like "scanning" the backup file on your USB drive when you select the target disk / partition.

You should try again and be patient (up to 10 minutes).

Hello Michael,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/ | Acronis Corporate Products]]

It looks like the standard Acronis Bootable Rescue Media handles the current USB drive improperly. I would recommend you to create another Acronis CD based on ISOLINUX. We have implemented the possibility to download the appropriate ISO file after logging in to your account. Please log in to your account, go to the Registered products section -> Bootable media. Download the file.

You can find more information on how to burn an ISO image to a CD here and here.

Please create Acronis Bootable Rescue Media and see if the issue persists.

Thank you.

Thank you for the follow up, I will try the new bootable media at the next available opportunity.

Hello Michael,

Thank you for your response.

Please let us know the results at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

I've seen this suggestion for many lock up problems, but there is no such "bootable media" tab for my ATI registered product.

 Dear John,

Thank you for reporting about the problem.

I regret to inform you that we have only n-1 versions available for download from the web account (Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Server = n, Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise Server = n-1). As far as I can see from yours, you have the 9.1 version, which is an outdated one and won't be updated.

In this case you need to contact support directly for the newer Acronis Bootable Rescue Media. I have just sent you the new Acronis Bootable Rescue Media in ISO format via PM, and would appreciate if you could test it to find our whether it solves the issue you have faced.

I would appreciate if you could kindly keep us updated regarding the case.

Should you have any further questions or the should issue persist - just post a comment here, and we will definitely help you.

Thank you in advance for cooperation.
