Recover full system to a new computer using Acronis 2011 Premium with plus pack
Hello
How can I tell if my existing (system) back up, made with Acronis 2011 premium with plus pack will restore to a different hardware set up. Does Acronis back up automatically to "universal backup/restore" when you have the "Plus Pack"? I do not see any settings or boxes to check.
I have Alienware M17X 3 1/2 yrs old. 1tb HD 2x500gb RAID 0. The graphic card overheated and damaged the motherboard. Dell is replacing my computer with either an identical machine (or better). I am running OS Win 7 Ultimate 64.
I have a complete system (disc) back up done with Acronis 2011 with Plus Pack saved to an external HD. Can I do a complete system restore to my new machine when it arrives? What does Recover Absolute Path do when box is checked?
What kind of issues should I prepare for in order to prevent problems in restoring especially if Dell replaces my OS with Win 8.1?
I plan to upgrade to Acronis 2014 Premium but I am not sure if I should do that now and try my restore using 2014 instead of 2011 version.
Also, would it be possible to use the Acronis Migrate software to migrate from one computer to another?...If so, is there a way to do this when I can not get my old computer to boot up?
Any advice would be so much appreciated.
Tnx
Kathy

I have the same basic question except that I am using Acronis 2012 and must replace only the hard drive.
The new hard drive is very different from the one that went bad.
First, is it possible to do a restore? If it is, then obviously, the new drive must have a minimal set of software to do a restore.
Just not sure what all must be in place to initiate a restore.
I have an Sony Vaio and Win 7 which I can put back on the computer.
Thanks, Dud

I saw the thing I am looking for in this post, "What does Recover Absolute Path do when box is checked? " This is not even answered here. In some companies' forums, an employee picks up on unanswered and difficult questions. What are we to do here with a question like this so difficult to find an answer for, like an hour without finding an answer. The answer with Acronis is to pay per incident. I do not see that as an option for things like this.

I have issued a ticket asking the same question to their support. They have told me like 5 times now that the difference is "original location backs up to original location and new location backs up to a new location", which doesn't answer the question. They have also give me this link several times http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATIH2014/#7944.html , which also doesn't say anything usefull.

Ok, after a dozen e-mails back and forth I finally got this answer from Acronis support:
support wrote:When you choose a new location, there is no requirement to select 'recover absolute path' because new location by default recovers the original, absolute path.Hence, you may even ignore 'recover absolute path' when new location is selected, as recovery is same with option 'recover absolute path' checked or unchecked.
So apparently the existance of this checkbox serves no purpose at all, except confuse people :)
