Cannot access secure zone

Thread needs solution

New here and I tried to search for this problem so please excuse and point me right direction if it has been discussed before

Acronis True Image 9/ Gateway with brand new XP pro install on a 300gb hard drive with 2gb memory. OS system (NTFS) and minimal program files are are all that is on the drive.

I created a "Secure Zone" and put an image of my C drive on it. When working from Windows it wrote and analized the image just fine. Trouble starts here:

Will not boot using F-11 key

I got it to boot from the Acronis Recovery disk after two attempts. But when I try to anaylize, or otherwise access the secure zone image, the computer freezes.

I can however access another image that I have on an external HD so it is something in the "secure Zone" that isn't working. I did notice that the Secure zone was FAT 32 and not NTFS as is everything else.

Thanks

What build of TI are you using? Also, do you mean version 9 or 2009? If 2009, press Alt to bring up the standard menu bar and then select the Help >> About option to find the build.

Regarding the F11 key: Did you activate the ASRM? Do you get the ASRM F11 prompt when you boot the computer?

The SZ is always FAT32.

Acronis True Image 9.0 build2,337

Yes I activated ASRMF11

New development. I decided to just use my external HD so I deleted secure zone using secure zone manager. Now I find that when I boot from the Acronis boot CD that it loads the program okay  but freezes every time I t tries to analize my drives

No I'm really without back up

That's a really old (and buggy) build of TI 9. Have you considered updating to the latest build (3,854)?

First off thanks for your help.

I found that if I boot to safe mode it seems okay. However, booting to the regular mode always hangs while trying to anyalizing the disks. I think I will run scandisk on my drives to see if that helps.

I think you are right about the upgrade wil look into that too.

sorry, i did not understand, on which drive did you create a Secure Zone? It it your local or external USB?

Summary of problem(s)

I attempted to install a "secure zone" on my C drive and have access via the F11 key. Secure zone seemed to install okay but I could not get the F11 key to access it. Yes, I enabled ASRM. Next, I tried to gain access via the Acronis boot disk. Boot disk worked but Acronis froze whenever it tried to analyze my drives. Decided to quit so I erased secure zone using the manager. Secure zone gone and boot  disk starts Acronis okay but it still hangs when analyzing disks. If I boot using boot disks and opt for the "Safe Mode" method everything works okay and I can access all drives.

Next I downloaded newest upgrade and installed it. I made a new boot disk. Now everything is working as it should. I noticed that this version does not even have the option  to boot into safe mode.

Anyway I have decided against a "safew Zone " now.  I always save images to an external drive anyway. I was eperimenting with the safe zone to see if I could get it to work on my son's laptop snice he has only one HD and no external drive. After this I don't darte to mess with it much more.

Thanks for the help

It should have the Safe Mode version. It would most likely only be installed in a Complete or Custom installation (if selected). Does that option not show up?

MudCrab

Thanks for the assist

After installing the latest build I was able to create a secure zone and access it with the F11 key.  One thing of note though.  If, after enabling the F11 key function I go ahead and boot with the rescue disk it resets the master boot sequence so that in order to use the F11 function I must reset it again. Perhaps that is what went wrong before. Who knows? Anyway all is well now

One last thing though What do those stars mean in the rating column? for instance I have three higlighted stars out of five in my backups

If you want to be able to boot from a CD/DVD before the hard drive, it's best to select that order in the BIOS boot order list. Using F11 shouldn't change this. If you remove the TI CD from the drive, the hard drive should boot automatically and you should have the F11 prompt, etc.

The stars don't mean anything unless you use them. It's just a "feature" Acronis added. It's up to you to rate your backup images however you want. The default is three stars.
